Professor George Ellis', contributions to our understanding of the boundaries between faith and science led to his being named a Templeton Prize laureate, the world's largest annual monetary prize given to an individual. He is considered to be among a handful of the world's leading relativistic cosmologists. He co-authored The Large Scale Structure of Space-Time with Stephen Hawking, and is considered one of the world's leading theorists in cosmology. Amongst his many accolades, he has also been awarded the Order of the Star of South Africa by Nelson Mandela and elected a Fellow of the British Royal Society. He is the Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Complex Systems at the University of Cape Town.
