After hearing how close we came to losing Cernan it amuses me to see the McDonnel simulation. Drooping umbilical and motion that doesn't even come close to the nightmare experienced by Cernan. We came very close to losing him which would have meant that Stafford would have had to re-enter with Cernan's corpse dragging behind. Not only that but Stafford would have no way to shut the hatch which means he would have to re-enter AND splash down with it open. Cernan came perilously close to cardiac arrest. His corpse would be better protected than Stafford. Stafford's flight suit was seven layers of Kevlar, ( I believe) while Cernan's eva suit would have been seven layers thick.

I met Mr Cernan at an event in Birmingham 2 weeks ago. He talked about how incredibly difficult it was to move in the pressurised suit and how the inside of his visor fogged up- he had to rub it with the end of his nose to make a viewing window! Thanks for sharing this interesting video.
