17. The first thing about a sideways shot that comes to mind has to do with the arc of the bullet. At short ranges the problem is minimized, as you see they hit slightly right due to the bore axis. But at long range, say you are shooting a hunting pistol w/ lower velocity, like a 300 gr .44 Mag. Gravity always pulls straight down, but the when the sights are on target at 100 yards shooting in an upright position, gravity is accounted for. But holding the gun sideways, let's assume grip to the right, does not change the straight down effect of gravity. So instead of the bullet crossing the sight picture twice (up through very near, then back down to the target,) the bullet will start out heading left (instead of up to account for the arc of normal flight,) but will fall down out of the normal sight line, rather than back to the right to complete a hit on target. So the bullet starts left then falls down. They were shooting so close, this effect was minimized. As the distance to the target increases, hits will be farther off low and left. Does that make sense to anyone else? BTW, John Smith, Jerry IS a monster!
