The Germans were the first to use daylight savings time on a large scale to organize attacks during the first world war. Everyone started doing it, and it stuck ever since.

I'm an Aussie, yes we have daylight savings and yes it's just as ridiculous. Try putting your kids to bed at 8:30 - 9 pm and the sun is still up. Turn daylight savings off and it would just be right. I dunno who voted for it man.

So as a farmer daylight savings time makes no difference because the farm is there 24/7/365 so during this time"fall/winter" I go to work in the dark and go home in the dark. We do a lot more shop time but still we have to do what needs done so we have lights on everything. #DUDESROCK🍻cheers.

I'm from Indianapolis and we didn't have Daylight Savings until well into my adult life, so I have a strong love/hate for it. I do love the sun up at 9pm in the summer, but pitch black at 5pm in the winter hearts my heart. Also, I love P words. They may not be "pleasant" but I enjoy saying them: pancake, pancreas, puppies....

Wikipedia has the answers, but you guys are so much more entertaining.

New Zealander George Hudson proposed the idea of daylight saving in 1895.[2] The German Empire and Austria-Hungary organized the first nationwide implementation, starting on April 30, 1916. Many countries have used it at various times since then, particularly since the energy crisis of the 1970s.
Personal comment...I hate daylight savings -

Tonal languages are extremely common in Africa, East Asia, and Central America, but rare elsewhere in Asia and in Europe; as many as seventy percent of world languages may be tonal.[1] -
