Columbia's wheels kissed the ground! Beautiful beautiful!
-
lol dat second countdown though
"5....4....3... nose gear touch down!" the early nose gear touchdown would be like "5.. bah who's got time to count!"
im going to use this and other short landing and liftoff videos for an 11 minute tribute to the space shuttle program. -
I remember me and my dad camping out on the dry lake bed to watch this landing, man its been a few years
-
I remember watching that live at work - we'd managed to rig up one of the meeting room TVs to get a signal, and I'm sure the fire marshal would have been apoplectic at the number of people who were stuffed into that room during the last ten minutes of that flight.

Welcome home Columbia! Beautiful, beautiful!

The Space Shuttle always had THE RIGHT STUFF
-
You're right, you don't get it.
-
My mom was here for the first take off of the Columbia in 1981 (first space shuttle launch) and with me when it disintegrated in 2003. She says its pretty surreal to be there for the beginning and end of it.

U trying to be funny, or what the hell is your point???
-
Really, how is it that responsibility doesn't exist while you are here, as our example of same, to say nothing of civility and humor?
-
I exercise my individual rights responsible every day. What about you? Soo, sacrificing one's LIFE is the only form of sacrifice you can comprehend or wrap your shallow mind around..? Amusing.
-
If you believe that individual rights exist, then respect for same hasn't fared so well, either. Mars One, meanwhile, is mulling over astronaut applications. One-way mission, if you're looking for an opportunity for sacrifice.

The Cold War is over!
-
Asphalt technology came a few years later than the first space shuttle mission.
-
I know where I was on that day. I was with a group of people on motorcycles enjoying ourselves just outside of Edwards. On the way to the landing I had a motorcycle wreck and broke my neck I was on my way to the hospital in Victorville when the shuttle landed
-
Thats the kind of attitude, sacrifice, professionalism, and guts that made us the greatest nation on earth.... It has slowly but surely given away to the "Me, Myself and I" generation where responsibility doesn't exist, only individual rights.... So sad!
-
I don't get it. They spend all this money on all these wars we don't want, why don't they spend it on something we do want: our Space Shuttle Program. I want to feel that kinda pride again! God, she's beautiful!
-
Amazing how they drop the gear so late.
