Why do they always mess it up by TRYING to say something poetic at liftoff. There's nothing more poetic than LIFTOFF!!!!

That's one magnificent Spacecraft, it is a shame it will never again leave the Earth to reach for the final frontier. But with it's (expensive) life over, it's purpose fullfilled, giving us Hubble, the ISS and countless other wonders of the modern world. NASA has circled in LEO for long enough, it needs to get humans back out to deep space. I am excited for the future, with Orion going to Mars, and Dragon V2 and others from Private Companies dealing with the local space above Earth's skies.

My daughter and I flew out from Ca, sat on the beach by the astronaut walk of fame and watched this historic flight. Unbelievable how much flame there is, you just can't see it on TV. and the Shuttle looked so small and insignificant on top of that collum of fire.

I drove from DC to see the launch but overslept😭on highway 200 miles from Cape Canaveral where my brother, who has seen countless launches, works as NASA engineer.
-
remember when I watched this live on TV whilst playing Apollo13 all systems go, the launch - soundtrack in background :D just stunning will never forget that :))
-
Anyone know what the pulsating sound before launch is? Sounds like air rushing over something.
