Elite Dangerous VR - Immersive Space Sandbox for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive [First Impressions]
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Elite: Dangerous is a space flight simulator that supports VR on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. One of my favorite VR games so far. I'm playing this game with an Oculus Rift, a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick, and a program called Voice Attack that lets you bind keyboard functions to voice commands. This game is a sci-fi sandbox MMO space flight simulator. You are placed in the galaxy with a loaner ship and a handful of credits, and it's up to you to forge your own adventure in space. The scale of this game in massive, it is a 1:1 recreation of the Milky Way galaxy with hundreds of thousands of solar systems designed from real astrological data, and billions of other procedurally generated solar systems. Set out to the nearest space station and start earning some credits so you can buy new ships and parts for exploring and conquering the vastness of space. You can earn credits in Elite: Dangerous through exploration, combat, trading, crime, and a variety of other methods. Choose the playstyle that suits you, and fly a ship that suits your playstyle. With multiple ships of every shape and size, there's something for everyone. Elite: Dangerous was released on December 16th, 2014 for the PC. Virtual reality support was patched into the game after release and it now supports the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR HMDs. VR adds an extra layer of immersion to an already realistic space flight sim. I highly recommend playing this game in VR, it's quickly becoming one of my favorites! If you're into VR, check out my channel and subscribe. I have a HTC Vive and Oculus Rift and I put out VR videos on a regular basis. I HUGELY appreciate this video, I bought this game after watching to the halfway point of your video. I then the next day went out and bought a Hotas 4 Flight Stick (version after the Hotas X) because I tried it with a controller, and could see that it was SCREAMING for a flight stick. I also bought EVE Valkyrie the same day just to see which I'd like more, and.....well I'm not gonna play EVE honestly. Flight stick support isn't very high it seems, and it's just an arcade game (no shame), which is fun, but not what I was looking for as a VR main game.
So far I gotta say man, you are totally right about this game. It's absolutely amazing, very good looking, SUPER immersive, and you can mentally get lost in it for hours upon hours. It's my 2nd favorite experience with my Rift now, 2nd only to iRacing.
Time for me to find out what this Voice Attack is all about, because 12 buttons just isn't enough lol...and that's awesome(!) to me. I've waited many many many years for something like this, being a space nut. Thanks a million :) -
You cant have been playing that long since your only flying around in an imperial Eagle.
-
I've made my first jump on VR and it was fucking scary to see the sun popping up so fast in front of you!!!
-
What joystick are you using?
-
PSA: turn your volume back down after you're finished with this video.
-
when you are approaching a place.. set a key or voice attack to put you at 75% speed.. that will bring you to 6sec .. it helps alot
-
nice video. I use to play this - (started) did some planet exploration but then the VIVE came. Well the other VR games have come and waned and I'm back to this... I'm having problems with all the controls when using VIVE. (no keyboard since you can't see it). I see your hosta's handles everything. I have a old X45 Saitec - I think I need to update. did you plug in play or did you have to program the hostas?

Mm = Megameter = 1 million meters

Is there a way to increase the FOV? I feel like the way it is now would make the still large interior of the Eagle look claustrophobic.
-
I bought this game on steam but I am having trouble running it on the rift.... what's the secret? I usually run oculus on oculus home, and steam for VIVE. But I can't figure how to get elite dangerous open on steam on my oculus..

About overshooting targets in FSD travel. As you approach your target in in-system FSD drive (or low-wake), you will get a message that says "safe to disengage" when you get close enough and your speed is not too fast. If you drop from FSD there you will spawn in perfectly a couple of km off. This is something that is important since some targets you will want to go to are instances and not physical places in space. This game is terrible about teaching you stuff though. I have well over 300h in it and I still google things often
