Wait... for queens on 4x4. You have displayed ([1,2], [2,4], [3,1], [4,3]) as the only answer.
Does ([1,3], [2,1], [3,4], [4,2]) not count? -
And now lets go to 3 dimensions and beyond!
-
I knew it didn't feel right...
You can put two queens on e a 3x3 board! Please tell me I'm not the only one and that I'm not going crazy!!! -
This belongs to combinatorics, doesn't it? Today I spent a lot of time working out how many ways there are to place n objects on m places and stuff like that, I guess this is a field of maths which I really enjoy. I enjoy everything about maths though
-
I wonder if you could put an entire chess board safely on one.
-
make a go/ baduk/ wei chi video!! math nerds love go.

James Grimes is my spirit animal
-
You forgot the 0x0 board with 0 queen.
-
fat tony references the 8 queens problem in an episode of the simpsons. i dont recall simon singh mentioning it but its in there
-
Oooooh, so that Bob Seger song was about a couple chess enthusiasts who meet at the drive-in movies. That changes everything.
......Waaaiiiit for it..... -
Is there any meaning to that sequence of numbers?
-
Didn't you say that for odd numbers you just add 1 queen in the corner and the rest of the board matches the grid before it? How come 6 x 6 grid has 1 solution and 7 x 7 grid has 6 solutions then?!
-
For anyone wondering how the sequence at 1:49 continues for boards larger than 8: http://oeis.org/A002562
-
So: how do you calculate how many "non-silly" Solutions there are? Will there be extra footage about that too?
-
More Dr Grime! Hooray

I actually tried to make a programme in C++ that would find all solutions to the problem. It's quite small, less than 80 lines of code. Unfortunately, I can't convince my antivirus that the programme isn't harmful, so I can't run it. >:(
