The "DUH!" got me so hard.

Okay, here's a question; the latest eclipse in my area (I think it was a couple years ago) wasn't a total eclipse but rather one resulting in my area being bathed in the penumbra; instead of looking at it directly, I found out I was able to turn my back to it and look at the reflection in the window or sliding glass door, and in my opinion it gave me a better view since I wasn't as worried about direct glare. However, was this still unsafe?

-
No mention of other clever ancients that discovered all the information he references for the Greeks.
-
Phil Plait you are great, thank you! I saw a total sun eclipse when I was 15, it's really one of the most beautiful things I ever seen in my life, don't miss next one, travel if necessary! everybody should see it at least once, specially astronomers
-
The Sun is 400 times bigger than the moon? SURELY that is incorrect lol the Sun is many more times larger than that :S
-
Thanks to my school, we weren't allowed to see the eclipse, now the next one is in 2072 for us, ffs.
-
makes no sense, maybe I'm just dumb, props
-
The other day i was walking my dog and i saw the moon (this was around 5-6 pm). The thing was, it looked twice the size it normally does. Is that normal?
-
I may be a bit short in the brain, or something...but how can we see the fully eluminated part of the moon without earth standing between the moon and the sun? Because that would mean we'd get a lunar eclipse, right?
-
help me please. how do we see new moons if its on the other side of earth with the sun.
-
Why are rett and link standing white eyed and drooling like zombies?
-
What was up with Rhett and Link being there? XD
