Earth Grounding Solar Off Grid System - Grounding Batteries, Panels, Controller, Inverter

Your Solar power needs to be grounded to help protect the components from power surge and lightening protection. Earth grounding is the way to help protect. I am not a electrician . Yes I do have a thunder arrestor on my roof and the inverter has its own ground terminal. My grounding is such that the ground wire that comes from the cc goes into the inverter then to the the ground yet this still happens, my inverter still shuts off and shows short circuit during lightening/thunderstorm My thought is whether it is not proper to wire the cc and inverter together in the same system, or if they have be the cc and inverter should have separate grounding independent of each other or maybe the ts mppt grounding serves for both equipment. NOTE. My controller is a Morningstar ts-mppt 45amp. How did you wire your system and what is the proper way to ground one's system.

Where you've used the spare black and white 14-2 for grounding could throw a professional off, if they have to come in after you. Bare is best, but when you're concerned about exposed wires in a dmark green is the preferred alternative identification color for ground.
Now that said, I've done what you did in the past (using scrap lengths to create ground connections). To clearly mark them though it's as simple as adding a little ground-green electrical tape wherever the wire in question goes in or out of a distribution box. -
That type of single rod is good where the soil conducts well, or it rains a lot.
Alternatives options are tying ground cabling to galvanized, bronze or copper wells sunk down to the water table, or setting the ground rod, shortest path, into a septic leach field.
A single 3m (9' long) galvanized ground rod simply isn't enough.
In the desert you might want to consider radial grounds.
Desert sand is like any silicate: poor or semi-conductors, therefore very very bad for grounding.
Radial grounding solves this, and can be as simple as running equal lengths of bare 12 gauge wires on or slightly below the ground surface radiating away from the ground rod. I can provide graphics for them if you PM me directly. -
It may not be a good idea to ground the battery wire. That can lead to some problems with some devices on the AC side.
Best to leave the batteries floating.
In fact, all DC circuits should be floating while all AC circuits and chassis should be grounded. -

This is off topic...but sounds interesting let us know if you try it! -
Nice job on the wiring. I really recommend you get a Green Paint Marker. The kind that uses paint not ink and just run it along all your ground wires so they have a green stripe on them. That will make them the standard colour for ground. The use of black and white could really confuse somebody. I know you understand your setup but someday someone else might come along and get hurt. The paint markers can be bought at almost all hardware stores for about $3 bucks and a large expensive system like yours is worth doing right! Great job on the grounding pole.

Don't you think it's a bit excessive for that circuit to require a whole planet to dump charge into? It's not like planets are easy to come by.

Are you using the breaker Box to break the 120V into Sections?
-
Bet you've got enough juice to run 2 a.c. units. Do you feel you can never leave that spot unattended? Keep up the good work!

Nice work.
Keep the videos rolling.
