Dyson put the style into household appliances, first with its vacuums and then with its fans. Now it's promoting a cool-looking space heater called the Dyson Hot. Consumer Reports tested it along with other space heaters. Find more free information on choosing a space heater: http://bit.ly/yc8wRb

when you grow up to be a space heater tester
-
my $35 heater from kmart turns off if its tipped over. I really dont see the reason for the price considering its a fan with a fancy looking air diffusing shroud

You're only testing a brand new heater. Try it after it's a year old and not maintained. Those tiny air inlet ports will clog in no time. No thanks, if it's Dyson, I'll stay away.
-
You're not going to tell us how many decibels and how that compares to other heaters? Thanks for the tease. =P

And yet the LATEST report they did a week ago, showed for small heaters the Holmes $40 USD unit was the BEST and the higher end Holmes I believe, Cube Sized model for LARGER rooms at $189 was the best to buy.

Dyson has a RECALL for models go to DysonRecall and it was all based on fire issues. We just got ours, within 3 minutes the E7 error code came on. Dyson customer service would only say "E7 is an Engineering code, you can send it back to HSN where you bought it for another one".

Bad report...

TESTED BUT NO RESULTS GIVEN - e.g. how long it heats a room???
-
The most frustrating thing about this review is that it omits the most important question: Does it indeed warm a room more quickly and efficiently than other heaters? That, after all, is the claim of Dyson. I realize that a more detailed review is available for paid access but I'm not looking for a detailed comparison. It's a simple yes/no question that is at the heart of Dyson's claim.

A friend of mine had this and we had a room at about 60F inside. Pretty cold. We left the heater running for 4+ hours and the room did not change in temperature one bit. It was moved into a smaller room with the door closed and only then could we feel any heat. But the biggest flaw with this is that the air blowing was cooler than room temperature. The heat was maxed out and set to 99F but all we got was cool blowing air with hardly any heat. It didn't even feel warm within 4 feet. A space-dish heater heats FAR better than this. I would never buy something like this for $400, let alone $100. It's a shame because I really wanted to see this perform well.

Where can I find a informative test report about the Dyson Hot?

I have one room in my house that is always cold in winter. I purchased a space heater that heats oil contained in the heater. It looks like an old fashioned steam radiator. The heat radiates upwards from the heater, there is no fan to make any noise. It manages to keep the room a comfortable 70 degrees in complete silence. There is no burning smell either. Best of all, it cost me about $40 some ten years ago.
-
I don't agree with that. I can easily buy a dozen of these things without making so much as a dent in my pocket. I won't buy it because it is a poor value. Why in the world would I buy something this expensive to heat a corner of a room when I can by something 90% cheaper to do the exact same thing? I'll give you a hint, I didn't get where I am by pissing away my money on stupid products.

Their stuff may be expensive but I love my vacuum. Pretty sure it's 5 or 6 years old and still works great. I do take the time to dismantle it and clean it all out though, something most people never do.

:15 hugh jackman iz dat you.

So Dyson is going after the trendy, superficial, segment of the buying public with plenty of disposable income but lacking the good sense to put a good chunk of that income into the bank? Good to know. BTW, that's coming from a watch collector who appreciates timepieces costing thousands of dollars. If Dyson is aiming to be the Patek Philippe of household appliances, they've got a very long way to go.
-
$400 for a space heater?? Okay, it looks stylish and trendy. And yes, there are some who would rather have something that looks good in their home. Even something as incredibly pragmatic as a space heater. Tip it over, it shuts off. That's been a feature on space heaters for decades now. For $400, Dyson should have come up with a much quieter space heater on the high setting. Still, far too much for a trendy space heater with a remote.

The laws of physics, not nature, do indeed state that energy can only be transferred (in most cases). That is the only part of your statement that is correct, when you have a conventional heater you see the red glowing heating elements do you not? The fact you see it means not all the energy is transferred to heat. The argument about efficiency can only mean you don't know the definition of efficiency. Stop proclaiming falsehoods as facts.
