DSLR Astrophotography - Let's Photograph the Trifid Nebula
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
In this DSLR astrophotography video I set up the NEW TELESCOPE for a night of deep-sky imaging from the backyard! Tonight's target is M20 - The Trifid Nebula. I also share a few DSLR astrophotography tips including how to keep dew and moisture from fogging up your telescope, and a useful piece of software to help plan your night of imaging: Trifid Nebula Photo Details: Total Exposure Time: 2 Hours 54 Minutes (58 x 3 min) Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker using Darks, Flats and Bias Frames Processed in Adobe Photoshop Facebook Page ➝ https://www.facebook.com/astrobackyard/ Learn My Technique ➝ http://astrobackyard.com/ Images captured on August 2, 3, 8 2016. Why did you turn dithering on and do you only do this for your lights?
-
Your channel is so underrated. I love the quality of your content! There aren't many people doing this, so it's nice to see someone like you truly passionate about it.
-
+AstroBackyard so when you choose the dither option on backyard eos, how does it tell phd to stop tracking and let it move slightly? I'm just confused because I'd love to get the program to dither instead of manually doing it.
-
What does the flatten-er do? And, why is it needed? Thank you

It's beautiful

I am trying to get into astrophotography. Is it worth it in light pollution? Could I use ettr to edit out the light?

Subbed bro

Hey fellow stargazer. I'm just getting back into astronomy / AP and you reminded me of stellarium. On that note, I recommend you install f.Lux (flux) on windows or Redshift in Linux (I don't use mac, sorry). Computer screens emit a lot of blue light and these application change the color temperature so your night vision isn't affected too negatively.
I haven't gone to a dark site or a star party but I have read they use red flashlights and turn off headlights when close to the site in order to respect others' night vision. I imagine people use these applications if they use computers with planetarium software while on site. There is also Twilight on Android which works as good as the others, if you must use your smartphone. Clear skies -
Awesome video! Thanks for taking us along!

Wow great video, the shock for me was at the end though when i saw you are imaging with a dslr at 30 degrees c. I might have spent the cash on a cooled ccd rather than the scope. I use a dslr but here i am imaging in negative temperatures for most of the year :)

Hi Trevor. Do you use a specific astro software to control your mount to '"go to" or move to the specific DSO for photography? Or you just rely on the mount's handset? Thanks a lot for sharing your videos.
-
I've been watching lots of AP videos of late - Keep coming back to your channel. Your enthusiam is contageous and the way you discribe how you are achieving your results is easy to follow. Really looking forward to seeing more in your series.

I have the ES 127 Carbon Fiber. Excellent scopes!
-
Awesome, that was beautiful!
-
Love your work!

I was looking for advice from a fellow Canadian on winter shooting. Is it something that you can do in colder climates: utilizing a tracking mount and a telescope or is it going to damage equipment?
-
Very good and each process is explained well.
-
Great info, but the music interfered with your talking a few times.
-
i watched your video on your equpment setup...so I had to come back for more excellent video

I really want to dig into astro photography, but I need to save my money more efficiently haha.. Though I already got a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, so no need to get a new camera.
Keep on making those videos! I enjoy every single one of them. :)
