DSLR Astrophotography - Let's Photograph the Horsehead Nebula
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
In this DSLR astrophotography video we take a look at some new equipment including a modified Canon T3i and H-Alpha Filter. This full spectrum modified Canon 600D was used to capture an image of the Horsehead Nebula and Flame Nebula in Orion. Sure enough, the clouds rolled in about mid-way through my imaging session. My Horsehead and Flame nebula image is a work in progress! Greetings from Santiago, Chile. Congratulations on a beautiful image of the Horsehead Nebula. Thank you for producing such excellent videos.

Have you done any tutorials on post processing with the modded camera? I modified my own T5 full spectrum. I use a CCD-CLS clip in with mine. Did you do a CWB with it? My issue is learning how to subtract all the red data in post processing to balance the colors.

Visually, this nebula is my arch enemy. I've tried viewing it countless times but it just won't show itself, not even in my 8 inch Dobsonian and a narrowband nebula filter.
-
Interesting. Got me looking for these clip in filters now for my 450D. Do you NEED to do the IR modification? Subbed.
-
Subscribed, this is awesome!
-
Beautiful, nice job!

Love your channel, your passion, your knowledge and willingness to share it.
-
are you running an auto guider?
-
That shot looks awesome Trevor! Haven't had a chance to get out with my scope all winter so far. Next time I do get out I have to figure out how to work my new autoguider. This hobby is one big learning curve after another (after every expensive purchase). I do appreciate being able to watch what you do, you are much father along the curve than I am! Thanks!

Love it! Makes me want to modify my old T3i.
-
Hey dude, i've been watching all of your videos now, I really think this channel is awesome!
One question though, why do you choose a high ISO setting, instead of a longer exposire with less noise?
Love from Denmark! -
Hi there! I really appreciate the beautiful exposure you get each day each night and share it so wonderfully with us. I really have a very concerning question please. I happen to see the most brightest and biggest star of ever seen stars since two nights. I am located in UAE and tonight seems full moon. Im sorry I'm not very accurate with counts. Anyhow if moon right now is appearing on my left above that brightest huge star is on my right and very much alone and is so bright and big that it astonishes me. It really seems as if a plane is just gonna fly over our residence. Which star is this as i did check venus position in sky map and this is one is totally at a different position. Please know that this star so bright so big caught so much my attention and concern to just know which star is it??? Please reply and check if you can right now.. I don't know if your timings match my side as its 8:11pm here Tuesday 13th december 2016... Ill wait for your kind reply.. This star has made me so curious that i plan to buy a telescope for first time ever in my life..

I like the astronomic CLS clip myself. Dont like the idea of screwing and unscrewing that filter all the time. Eventually something is going to get stripped or cross threaded.
-
Love your videos man! From Singapore
-
Hi Trevor! Love watching! Regarding your LP Filter, does it also block UV/IR? If not, how do you achieve good focus? Because IR and visible have different focus offsets, and I can never get a good focus without a UV/IR filter.
-
Thnnx 4 the channel. There's a lot to learn here. Keep them coming!

Hey man,
great job with this channel first of all. I really enjoy watching these vids.
I always wanted to start off with astronomy and get an own telescope but never did so.
Your channel got me hot for this again.
Now the only problem I have is finding a decent mount. I am tending to the eq5 but dont really know if it will be enough for a 11 kg skywatcher newton + camera equipment (which will be added only in future but i want the mount to already suit the needs)
tl;dr
Now my question is what the fotography equipment weighs? Excluding the telescope itself. Only Camera, finder Scope, Webcam and what's needed for tracking an object and taking photos of it.
I really hope you can help me out with this matter :) -
Would love to come meet u one day. Big fan. Might even want ur autograph ☺️ learned a lot from u brother.
-
why do you even put a light polution filter on T3i and take picture of HorseHead , the RAW
format image looks still so red that I can't see anything before doing any adjustment in photoshop ? -
On Team View just click on that tab that's right of Session List. https://youtu.be/uHDQFnNPCRM?t=10m59s BTW great videos you have. I just recently had my canon modified from Gary Honis. So now I'm just a little curious to know more about these clip on filters. The only filter I have and using is the CCD-CLS. So what other filters I should be using? Sorry for asking a dumb question but I'm new to this and don't want to waste any more darkness :) Here is my image I did with just the CC-CLS but my reducer spacing isn't correct (104mm) yet till i get more T2 spacers http://www.astrobin.com/274524/0/ But if I can do better by useing a diffrent filter then I would like to know more about it.
Thank You
