Does Space Travel Make You Stupid?
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Space travel is a fascinating idea, but it comes with some potentially harmful consequences. Trace is here to discuss many ways that space can harm the human body. It started as soon as Vostok 2 separated from its booster and he was thrust into weightlessness.” Trip to Mars would turn astronauts into weaklings http://www.nbcnews.com/id/38770561/ns/technology_and_science-space/t/trip-mars-would-turn-astronauts-weaklings/#.VDQ4fildVoc “Astronauts on a mission to Mars could lose nearly half their muscle strength during the long trip, giving them the physiques of senior citizens by the time they arrived, according to a new study.” Going Private: The Promise and Danger of Space Travel http://www.space.com/386-private-promise-danger-space-travel.html “A flurry of space tourism milestones and announcements in recent days signals that human spaceflight is shifting from governments to the private sector, space experts say.” Effect of Prolonged Space Flight on Human Skeletal Muscle (Biopsy) http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/research/experiments/245.html “The Biopsy researchers take calf muscle biopsies of crew members before and after their stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS).” In space, astronauts immune systems get totally confused http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2014/08/18/in-space-astronauts-immune-systems-get-totally-confused/ “Can an astronaut survive a long-term spaceflight?” Microgravity and radiation exposure add up to serious health risks for astronauts http://phys.org/news/2014-02-microgravity-exposure-health-astronauts.html “Astronauts floating weightlessly in the International Space Station may appear carefree, but years of research have shown that microgravity causes changes to the human body.” Understanding Space Radiation http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/spacenews/factsheets/pdfs/radiation.pdf “Outside the protective cocoon of the Earth’s atmosphere in a universe full of radiation - it is all around us.” Watch More: Would You Want To Live on Mars? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq_SS2bR4vQ What I Learned in Croatia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aimHpF7Eg8 ____________________ DNews is dedicated to satisfying your curiosity and to bringing you mind-bending stories & perspectives you won't find anywhere else! astronauts need gravity, just as all other humans
-
I kinda hate dnews

If I was smart enough and could meet the requirements for astronaut training, yes. I would go despite the facts that it is dangerous, but if I got to choose, I'd stay only a very short time, like a few weeks or less
-
yup i want to go out into space filled with all the dangers
-
yeah, we should all stay on this rock and not do anything. awesome.
-
My answer: Probably not, but watching stupid Youtube videos does certainly make you stupid.
-
was thinking about going to space, now ummm i dont know
-
Where did you get that shirt???
-
Does space travel make you stupid? Potato.
-
Yes I would like to live in Mars
-
We really need some fake gravity shit.

I cant help thinking of 60 years of space flight. It is not too inconceivable to theorize that a child could have spent nearly 40 years in a 0 G by now. Human testing laws aside. I mean who really has the resources to do this. And who has jurisdiction and enforcement responsibility of space? Still a thought provoking concept. A 35 year old skin stretched over a human like skeleton with eyes and a brain...Shivers me timbers. I think if we witnessed this person we would assume the worst, and be right. But I would like to speak to them. We have done worse to other "volunteers". Some experiments you couldn't talk to afterwards. Just sayin. LOL Possible yes, plausible no. Or maybe.........lol

Nooooooooo

Space movies and books teach us the simple fact that when in space there is NO up or down so if you're in space and are trying to figure it out then you simply don't know what you're doing. As for the radiation, they are currently working on insulation and walls that block it or atleast a large percentage of it. For the muscle loss, astronauts work out in space so that they can counter that as much as possible and for the immune system thing, I'm sure that NASA or someone can figure that out. Are we ready for public space travel? Not yet, but I think we're close. Also I highly doubt that it makes you stupid in any way.

If we can get civilians in space that would mean we are that much closer to colonizing other regions of space. I say 25% of our population is worth that, in other words fuck the risks start sending people now and see what happens. Fastest way to learn! It'll be worth it in 100 years when we have 2 planets ;D

Reason number 1 , the van allen belts.
-
All of these risks can be eliminated entirely, if you don't go with the current NASA mentality of "let's put astronauts for six months in zero-g and minimal shielding to study what happens". If you view astronauts as passengers instead of guinea pigs as government space programs currently do, there is simply no reason to expose them to unnecessary risks.
You can easily mitigate all of the effects by limiting the trip time to a month or less if you're not going farther than the moon. If you're going farther than the moon, or if want to live permanently in space, you can mitigate the effects entirely with thick radiation shielding and rotating the spacecraft to provide artificial gravity. -
Space travel is a enterprise that we should accept that will be a accomplishtment of mankind no for find a new wolrd to live at but becuase is in our self to achievement, to explore the universe is part of our purpose
But no for more we should keep earth save and sound

hell yea! i want to go to space.

I'd happily be a sacrifice for that. Want to shoot someone into a black hole? Sign me up.
