The answer, revealed in the first maps made from New Horizons data, turns out to be shades of reddish brown. Although this is reminiscent of Mars, the cause is almost certainly very different. On Mars the coloring agent is iron oxide, commonly known as rust." New Horizons: Exploring Pluto and Beyond http://www.space.com/18377-new-horizons.html "New Horizons is a NASA spacecraft that was the first to visit dwarf planet Pluto in July 2015. Its pictures of the dwarf planet's icy surface, as well as observations of Pluto's moon Charon, are revolutionizing our understanding of solar system objects far from the sun." Here's why New Horizon's post Pluto destination is important http://www.astronomy.com/news/2016/10/pluto-target-after-new-horizons "Far, far past Pluto, the most distant object humanity has ever visited, there's a tiny world fainter than any seen in that part of our solar system. Its dark orbit reaches a billion miles beyond the former ninth planet. But 2014 MU69, as it's labeled by astronomers, is just a few dozen miles across - too scant to be spherical." ____________________ DNews is dedicated to satisfying your curiosity and to bringing you mind-bending stories & perspectives you won't find anywhere else! Pluto's color photographs SUCKS! It's like b/w photos with a red digital filter over them! There is no color gradients nor volumes, the entire planet seems a flat disc... The shadows are also RED! Exactly the same tone of red everywhere! It's scientifically worthless!
