DIY Solar Panel System: I've Gone 100% Solar Power
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
You don't need a DIY solar panel system kit to go 100% solar power. After two years of work today I threw the switch and went 100% off grid with solar power. It really works! What is surprising is it cost less and was easier to do than expected. That being said I had a lot of help from Al http://YouTube.com/EcoNewPower. I will break down all the components the reason behind why I bought these items, the cost, wiring and how I installed the system. As of right now, if the power goes off today, we'll have lights tonight.

if it works ..why don't you go off grid 100% of time? .. is it worth it ?

this is awesome.. I want to go off the grid with solar too... thanks for sharing how.. love your video..

this is awesome.. I would want to go off the grid too.. thanks for sharing this..

Thanks. I am not mechanical or tech savvy. BUT, this is still helpful and I could get done with other help.

where to get system
-
can I get off of the grid and eliminate my power company with solar panels and the system and..... still use my central a/c?

Like someone else mentioned - why in the WORLD would anyone put up Solar Panels and have them SHADED!!! I'm surprised he didn't put them in his basement to keep them safe!
2 years? What was he doing, melting the sand to create his own silicon wafers, then slicing them to create the panels? Give me a break.
Also, there is NO WAY he's running the whole house from that panel if he has a fridge and freezer... Oh, maybe he didn't tell you that his fridge runs on GAS! Those 4 panels put out a MAX of roughly 1300 watts (325 watts per panel for a high end panel).
He listed a plasma, computers, etc... computers are a couple hundred watts, so is a plasma, etc. Then add the fridge and freezer, fans, etc. He's WAY over that 1300 watts and that's a MAXIMUM output.
But - take it from idiot called "LDSPREPPERS", not me - an Electrical Engineer from MIT.
And what IDIOT wouldn't use this all the time? Ok... Indiana - where you can't use it because they'll screw you over which sounds a bit shaky at best. I think you could fight that on a constitutional basis. -
The seeds inside eh?

You can use inplix instructions to build it yourself guys.

Very helpful video... true... its easier to follow.. thanks..

LDS that looks like about a 1 KW array. Way too small to run what you said you were running and to keep the batteries up every day. I just don't want people to be misled.... if you are running all that stuff you pulled some tricks like buying $2,000 Sunfrost fridges.

3 minutes of looking at panels, could have been spent looking at how you went about construction, connectors, elec map, interior path for all wires, explain battery setup, etc. I am happy for you, but wish for more tech details.

Gets solar panels.....Puts them in the shade...Pays for them....doesn't use them unless an emergency...Seriously is logic not your thing.
-
You should have given us a brief tour of your set up, and not just look at a set of solar panels your whole 3 minute video.

You mentioned several months ago that you would be willing to answer a few questions re your solar system. Would you please reach out to me at drtolman@cableone.net.Thank you,Bruce
