DiMarzio Super distortion Humbucker DP100 bridge Gibson Les Paul Studio 50's Tribute Demo

With the DiMarzio fitted this becomes a formidable axe for classic rock. Here I'm just busking nothing in particular but hopefully this will give you enough of the chuggin chords and riffing sounds as well as a bit of lead soloing thrown in. I have worked out a method of soldering pickups without messing up the circuit board and thus preventing the guitar being returned to it original state. This DiMarzio is the F spaced 4 wire version.

I would love to be your next door neighbour 🤘🤘
-
Any reason why you used the F spaced humbucker?

These tributes always sound nice n bright to my ears whatever is in them. My own is also really crisp and chimey. Love it.

Boston sound

this sounds superb, let me tell you

Are those the super 2s or the super ds
-
Know you need to add a 36th anniversary in the bridge :D
-
It's recorded direct to the video through a Line6 PODxt
-
What amp do you use in that video??????

I soldered a piece of stiff wire (it was the excess cut off the leg of a capacitor) vertically from the volume pot (lower of the 3 connectors) by gently heating the solder on the circuit board with a low wattage soldering iron. This gave we a connector to then solder the pup hot wire to. I then soldered the pup earth to the bare bridge wire above where it meets it's connector to the circuit board. - hope this makes sense!

How did you solder in the Super Distortion and still preserve the circuit board?

The other thing is most guitarists use overdrive or distortion pedals and these colour the sound so much that the guitar used almost becomes irrelevant. The reason it's easy to emulate Pink Floyd guitar sound is that Gilmour uses so many pedals to change his guitar sound away from being just a Strat that it's easy to emulate it with a Les Paul using humbuckers! The only question is getting a good recorded sound and to me it doesn't matter how you get it as long as it's a good sound!

Do you understand how the modelling works as you keep talking about sampled tones ? The modelling technology merges the sounds of the digitised guitar signal with the digital data it has about the amplifier characteristics, modified by the current settings, and recalculates a new signal based on all of these factors. I'd love to have studio engineers getting my sound for me but to get a miked up sound in an instant nothing else compares. Check out some of my other videos using a tube amp.

Well thanks for your wisdom on this but I beg to differ. Using the same modelling setting for each demo clearly does reveal the differences between different guitars and pickups. If I used the same tube amp it would color the sound of each just as the modelling does but yet each guitar would continue to sound unique. I would suggest listening on some proper speakers rather than a laptop/tablet/phone otherwise you'll hear no difference whatever I do with the recording!

Check out what DiMarzio say on their website. They recomened F spaced for LP's where string spacing 52mm or more.

F-Spaced pickups are for guitar with Floyd Rose
