The tone zone sings a bit more and has more body to the tone.
would really prefer to hear both in the same guitar.
Even though he is using two J custom's no two guitars sound exactly the same not even if they are the same model. -

was anyone else surprised at how close the tone zone was to the fred in clarity?
Being that the tone zone os a much hotter ,fatter pu i thought it would not have as much clarity as the fred? -
Awesome playing! I love both pickups but the tone zone sounds sounds a lot cleaner.

Still love the Fred, but Tone Zone is my main choice for overdrive leads, the harmonics are incredible.

I am now converted Ibanez player. This was before I watched this vid...... I like the necks a lot and the looks of the guitars. I have a custom strat with an Ibanez 22 fret neck as well as the Ibanez guitar I play as my current go to axe.

Kind of a cool comparison video you made! I've always loved DiMarzio pickups. I strayed a couple of times but always came back. I played a Tone Zone for a LONG time. I bought one the first year it came out and played it for 20 years. I also used a FRED for a while and loved it but wished it was a tad hotter. Now I have a Norton and it's a perfect blend of the TZ and FRED. Now I want to try a Mo' Joe. I'll bet it's awesome. To hear my Norton check out.. /watch?v=2VCYxsLfSKI thanks for the vid!

Both sound really great, what i hear that makes sets them apart is the FRED is clearer,more articulate and not as hot. I own both and i would say the FRED is more old school VH sounding and the TZ is newer VH. I am using VH's tone as i reference because both of these dimarzio's are very VAN HALENIZED to my ears even though the FRED was made for satch i hear a lot of EVH's tone in it. ah maybe i am tone deaf? LOL!
