Prefer mid range pickups thus for me the Fred is best

Which would you take for strictly high gain melodic lead (early 90's type)? Mainly looking for harmonics and tone complexity. Thx!

Starts at 0:49

David who would you describe the bridge pup that comes stock on this? I still use this guitar and the bridge pup might be on its way out. but I can't decide if I love it of hate it because it's sounds good sometimes. and sometimes it just lacks some punch or life

Hmm, so I have a JS1000wh thats sounding a bit muddy. I will be swapping in an evo I think. The PAF pro doesn't really get used overly much, so I'll probably just leave that one alone.
-
Thanks good comparison!
-
Would love to see / hear Joe and Steve switch guitars for a set of songs.

Thanks, great review of two pups I`m trying to choose between, simple ,effective review, for my money,I believe I`ll be going with the fred. Thanks again !!

both nice pickups.. the FRED is much more organic and tonally true, the EVO simply has higher output and a less diverse sound. The demo was a bit lacking, should have played both at half volume and on cleaner settings to really compare. If you are live and cutting thru the EVO would be fine, but it not near as tonally diverse. I've used the FRED's (in JS models) and I'll be putting one in my Les Paul, as the bridge BurstBucker should have been tagged as the GARBAGEBUCKER, it sound like a bad 1970's CB radio. It seems as though the trend is for higher and higher output.. that is why your amp has a volume knob... if you get a gain master like a 5150 or Mesa Dual Rec, you'll have more than enough gain.

Evo for riffs, Fredy for solos.:)
-
HI, you mention "2 new" however I recall buying an Evolution back around 2005, so these are not NEW at all, much less in 2011 when you posted this video.
-
for me evo more "in your face" sound but fred is smooth gently.
-
Don't underestimate the Fred. It may be medium output but it gets some crazy good harmonics and overtones.Very expressive pickup. It also gets tight with high gain
-
Thought the Fred sounded a little bit clearer and the Evolution sounded a little more higher and slight more distortion.
-
I think I'll go with the evolution. Not sure which is better between both Evo's. Being as there is an Evo 2
-
Great video. I think the Evo cuts through more. The Fred seems like its umph. While the other is more bite.
-
Both are great. The Fred just sounds a bit "rounder".
-
evolution it's better for me
-
Well done!
