Dimarzio DP156 Humbucker From Hell - Neck Position
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
A before-and-after comparison of the Dimarzio DP156 "Humbucker From Hell" versus a generic Gibson humbucker in the neck position. FWIW, I later transferred the DP156 to the neck position of my Frankenstrat. You can hear it on the first half of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqTNMy5GjbY although the recording isn't the best. BTW, as bright as the DP156 is, the bass strings still sounded too flatulent/wooly using the standard p/u height. So I lowered it (below the bass strings only) until they cleaned up ... which they did nicely.

sounds beautiful

I gonna do the same !

This pickup is sounding like acoustic guitar with overdrive...
-
Does it Djent XDDD
-
Sounds much better.
Good playing too.
Thanks for the demo. :) -
Big difference I definitely like the Dimarzio in this case. More open and articulate sounding. Great demo.
I have found that a lot of pickups get a bad rap when installed using the factory volume and tone pots. For any HB equipped guitar I highly recommend checking the resistance of the volume and tone pots and if they are below 500k replace them with higher value matched pots wired 50s style. All my HB equipped guitars usually have 525-550k ohm matched pots installed wire 50s style. It was unbelievable the difference that made and much cheaper than buying pickups. If you aren't satisfied with it then then go to trying pickups. -
I've never really liked having a humbucker in the neck position of any guitar (a Les Paul with a duncan 59 is an exception). Usually way too dull.
HFH is a good idea. Sounds like a single coil. -
wow...... the HumFromHell is bright but stil retains the woody character of the mid neck positions . good demo
-
Good Demo!
You selected appropriate familiar songs to test the neck position.
And BTW, the Humbucker from Hell sounds great! -
Could sound like Gilmore solo in Another Brick in the Wall that was a Les Paul too but never knew that maybe he had a pickup like this or P90 in it
-
I am absolutely in love with this tone! Beautiful sounding pickup!
-
Sounds great.

sounds pretty good. i can the difference. is it like playing the middle and neck pickup in a fender? that real clear sound?
-
Splited is not a lot different than in humbucker mode, a little thiner. Generally Its humbucker sound is something between a single coil and humbucker.
-
What you're hearing is a standard, plain vanilla installation: a humbucker wired in series. No coil taps or splits.
-
have you heard this pickup splitted? this is in single coil mode? as in a HSH configuration? thanks
-
You're a helluva player, man. Was considering this one in the neck of my guitar, and a Gravity Storm in the bridge. You just made up my mind.
-
That rough distortion spoiled the demo.

Even if the DP156 is a lot clearer than the Gibson, don't you find the Dimarzio more bassy ? This is what I hear on YouTube in my headphone... I imagine for me the follwing set : DP156 in the neck position and a DP151 PAF PRO in the bridge position. Would you have any opinion about it ?
-
The bridge pickup is a Schaller Golden 50 intalled in the early 80's. I believe it was Schaller's attempt to replicate the vintage 50's humbuckers.
