Dimarzio Andy Timmons pickup Demo
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
A quick improv jam demoing the Dimarzio Andy Timmons pickup set I just threw in my Strat - two DP187 Cruiser bridge pickups in the neck and middle positions and an AT-1 Timmons in the bridge, with 500k pots. Amp was a Mesa Roadster into a Recto 2x12, first on Tweed of channel 1, 100 watts, and then Channel 3 Modern, 50 watts, both on tube rectification, in Spongy mode, with a SM57 a little over an inch off the grill and a Line6 DL4 delay in the loop for Channel 3, at little more than comfortable apartment volume. I couldn't understand why anyone would put anything other than a singlecoil in the neck position of a Strat for years, so I'm a little surprised to be saying this, but I'm really liking these so far. This is a little rough in places - I was trying to remember to switch pickups now and then to show a couple of the different tones available with this set. This song came about after an afternoon jamming along with Lyle Watt's "Slowdown," so if you like this you definitely should follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKc_umhyyyE

My DP187 sounds very mellow even with 1000k pots. any idea..wht may be the reason?
-
What's the difference between 500 pots and 250?
-
when you installed this setup, what did you use for pots? 500 or 250k?

nice tone and playing. -
Drew, watched most all of your videos on the different pups. In your opinion... Which Dimarzio Area pups are closest to the Dimarzio Cruiser bridge in the neck position? Or are they just too different to compare?

i know i`m not gonna sound like andy, but i`ll give it a try.
do you think i`m gonna get the same results on a basswood body? i wanna put them on on my Cort G254 -
Great sound and playing! I just got an AT-1 for my Fender Deluxe FMT strat. How do you like the Wilkinson/Gotoh bridge? I also thought about replacing the stock tremolo set up on mine.

I'm thinking about buying this set of pickups for my guitar, thanks for the inspiring example!
Awesome playing, by the way! -
Hi . Please do a Comparison between Dimarzio Area set and Andy Timmons pickups (I mean the Cruiser ones ).
I'm really wondering which one is better and more versatile in both clean and Dist ? -

These pickups do sound good. They are maybe the perfect set. I don't see how anything can really sound better. I mean... you can play everything from Groove or Die to Puppet Show to Remember Stevie to Electric Gypsy or anything else bluesy. These pickups really remind me of the 60's strat sound kind of but more controlled and tighter. I love the versatility they have. I am currently thinking of having a 1956 MVP strat built to specs by someone who does flawless copies but this vid tempts me to tell the luthier to put a humbucker slot in the bridge so that I can have these pickups in that guitar. It is ash though so probably not nearly as good as it would sound with alder since Andy like alder for its warmth. Maybe I will just stick to the original design on the MVP 56 strat and use fat 50's pickups and have a 57 strat built with an alder body the next time and 22 fret neck with the soft V profile and use these pickups in it plus a wilkinson trem and an s1 switch. Seems like a winner...
