In episode 1x01 Midnight on the Firing Line Ivanova is telling Talia her mother was telepath, refused to join the Psi Corps, and opted to take drugs to suppress her telepathic abilities instead of going to prison. Stick around with B5 and you will found more about genesis of telepathy. JMS named the character after the science fiction writer Alfred Bester, since telepathy is a recurring theme in his work

vis-a-vis the difference in appearance between J'Dan and Jadziah. My head fannon for that is the same as for why Klingons look different now and then, and why the Nausicaans looked different. I just assume these are all different sub-races of their species. Sort of the alien version of the way humans have different skin colors and facial features.

How long have the Trill been Federation members at this point? I know Doctor Crusher was unaware they were a joined species, implying to me they'd joined recently, but then Jadzia mentioned she knew Bones before he was a doctor, so they'd at least been Federation allies for a century beforehand, which makes the idea that legal responsibility for past hosts crimes hadn't been resolved until this point quite surprising.

Cap you need to show Eric "Drumhead" and "Measure of a Man" probably the best star trek courtroom dramas.
