Dark Energy and the Runaway Universe
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
World-renowned astronomer and prize-winning professor of astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley, Alex Filippenko, explores some of the mysteries of the universe at a special lecture at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Filippenko discusses observations of very distant exploding starts called super-novae that provide intriguing evidence that the expansion of the universe is now speeding up. Over the largest scales of space, the universe seems to be dominated by a repulsive "dark energy" of unknown origin, stretching the very fabric of space itself faster and faster with time. The universe is so big it would empty our pockets so many times over that even if all money at earth was spent investigating it, there would never be enough $ to do it lol again the safe have for one lol.... We live on a slice of a tiny piece of bread... Exchanging gravity waves is star trek lol now you shouldn´t start to ascend too much either mister scientist or else i call you a priest instead...

i wonder why some was sent to california lol NASA are so howering above our solarsystem it makes me laugh.... They day NASA start play less i get an heart attack or so... When i spot diamonds as cape cod in the universe and not at earth i can´t stop laughing either, it is like a big oh that´s why to me lol...One day our iono show go into wrong direction... and then we can talk from here to whatever.... I can´t wait to my retirement,... reirement??????? there is no such it is for life hahahahahaha

This is the third astronomer i've listened to now on youtube in a public lecture. and he's as annoying somehow as the other two were. his presentation is a bit shallow and his personality is annoying. and it was tasteless to plug his teaching company garbage. this guy is over rated and i hope i don't see him in any more documentaries. he seems to keep popping up everywhere.

At around 38:48, alex mentioned that they found 83, 82 and 84 supernovae in consecutive years. Isn't there any possibility that they may be seeing the same supernovae which they saw last year?

type 1a super nova take 9.5 billion years to get started plus the time it takes to gather the mass from the orbiting star, upwards to another billion years. so how do we observe a galaxy near the beginning of the universe of maybe by one billion years? also they are not looking into the distance but back in time, time being more significant. the acceleration should be calculated with negative time not positive distance to reveal slowing expansion at the beginning understandable shortly after the bang, noting there may have been hyper expansion from bang to shortly afterward.

I believe the Universe had a beginning. The Big Bang! I also believe the Universe will have a ending. The Big Crunch! And then a New Beginning! ! I believe the Universe is Cyclical and Perpetual! ! And will continue to Exist Forever! ! So, stick that in your Computer and Smoke It! ! !

No one can match this guy's verbal facility.

No one realy knows, or has the perfect formula to understand the universe. Humans were not made by nature, or by a creator, to understand completely how all of nature functions. There will always be questions abouth the universe.
Understanding at all how the universe functions is a resent human inovation, and that we know anything at all is good enough for me, so lets give some credit to who ever works hard, in the name of science. That that person does not know all the answers is understandable. That he takes risks, and talks about some thing that no one realy understands is quite admarable, though. -
Physically, 0=1(infinite decrease a)=2... Non-existence exists - but as spatial existence. Σ=G=s=λ=c=v=a=1=∞=any1=variable=constant (constant change): any volume as velocity variable short unity, spectrum or state 1 (in energy conservation law +1), constantly changing itself and any internal/external 1 equally to it is equal to constant infinite 1 thence to any variable short 1 (changing or travelling in infinite volume with equal velocity, occupies or contains infinity and any 1 equally as same). Any 1=∞=any1 is equal, the same Universe as its evolution – travel of any 1=∞ as/in/to equal state, infinite increase, acceleration of that is equal decrease thence constancy.
Unified Metric System Principle: as space dimension time is space: because space increases/decreases infinitely therefore any different from space its zero-dimensional divisor the time by definition of its 0 geometric/algebraic quantity does not exist (not occupying thence not affecting space, volume as velocity), physically what is perceived as time used as meter in any (space/speed) phenomenal science, geometry and algebra – is the same positive space length λ (or L) as, or equal to, positive geometric period (moment, continuum) of length existence (literally length as/of length, or λ/λ=λ); and indeed, as Σ=s=λ=c=v=a=+1=∞=variable=constant this period is equal either (inversely) proportional to space, speed or any positive geometric quantity or value – and that proves e.g. current metric system (or any system) in physical reality to be homogeneous unified one (spacetime s/t=s/s; m×a=s×s; 1/2=s/s etc; e.g. 1 second (in Earth rotation) as period and length (volume as velocity 1=∞=any1, as/in 1 Space) is equal to 1 year - and to any period); any theory – correct rational physical reality; or equates time change, dilation to volume as velocity acceleration; etc. The current Standard (sciences) Model only works (in short scale) because its 0 is not impossible that but infinitesimal +1 – any different non-existent 0 cannot be measured/observed/expressed thus physically doesn’t function.
If any 0 dimension (of time) did not exist as in reality s=+1 (infinite decrease), it would not be feasible for invention (discovery) or any expression; but as existent spatial matter, it is used and can be exchanged for any data or numerical symbol.
Examples therefore:
s=λ=v=c=a ; c=v×d ; t=s ; v=d/t=s/s ; a=v/t=s/s ; f=1/t=∞/∞/t=c/λ=s/s=1=∞ ; ρ=m/s=s/s=adeceleration ; m=ρ×s=s×s=adeceleration ; F=m×a=s×s=adeceleration ; G=s=adeceleration ; K=H=W=R=w=r=s=+1=∞ , etc, as well as any of above are equal s=+1=∞
As in physical reality positive spatial (feasible for any expession) spectrum: point, dot, linear, plane or any dimension 0=sinfinitesimal=adeceleration=1/∞=+1=∞ ; any geometric/ algebraic/physical quantity (fraction, complex, multiple, separate, different, negative etc.) is –∞…∞=s=+1=∞
Σ=G=s=λ=c=v=a=+1=∞=any1=variable=constant
Index: s kinetic energy volume, space; Σ any (kinetic) energy, v velocity as velocity value; d , λ distance, (wave)length; c constant, speed of light; a change, acceleration; G gravity (kinetic energy of gravity); t , f time, frequency; ρ density; F force; m mass; “limited”: short; K temperature; H heat; w power; R resistance; W work; r velocity ratio. Universe by definition is the set of all that exists. How can you have other universes when by definition it is the set of all that exists, including God if you are a believer.

What if time itself is running at a different rate way out there? Instead of expanding the 'Doppler' effect would not really be a 'Doppler" effect. Instead it would be a result of slower time out there, processes running slower as distance increases.

How does it make any sense to say the total Universe may be of a ratio of a proton to the visible Universe? The big bang was only 13.7 billion years ago and we can see galaxies out to 12 billion light years. That 12 billion light years is comparable to a proton relative to the scale of the visible Universe? You say this is not the ramblings of a crack pot- intuitive common sense would suggest it is a utterly ludicrous statement.
