For World Space Week Huw demonstrates the formation of our Solar System in a really cool live experiment that you can do at home! Simply take an empty plate and place a little bit of water onto it. Get the water swirling around and now drop some pepper in there. You can see the pepper rotating and this represents all the rocky material in the solar system. As you continuing swirling it, you'll notice that all the bits of pepper begin to accrete towards the middle and that's exactly what happened in our solar system. All the rocky material moved towards the centre creating rocky planets, such as the earth. The sun first ignited about five billion years ago and sent out a shockwave, sending gas past all the terrestrial planets. To show this get some washing detergent, place it in right in the centre and you'll see the shockwave effect with the pepper. If you tried this, tell us how it went with your live experiment in the comments below. Give us a thumbs up, share with your friends and don't forget to subscribe to Head Squeeze for more brilliant experiment videos from Huw and the team. Have you seen aliens?
