Could We Build A Space Elevator? | Answers With Joe
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
The cost of launching crew and cargo into space is way too expensive. A space elevator could change that - but the challenges are incredible. Want to know more about the space elevator? A new space elevator concept will help to make us a true space faring civilization .
It has multiple tethers at its center ( for greatest strength ) and
fewer tethers as you move away from center ( for lesser amounts of mass ) . It is also in an elliptical geosynchronous orbit , so it appears to drop straight down from space , pick up a payload , and return to space , thus requiring a much smaller system than an earth based space elevator. We already have material strong enough to get us within the distance of the lunar gravity center ( around 6,000 mi. ) add the proposed system above and we could do this now!
Let's get started.
What do you think? -
What if we built it on top of Mt.Everest.

Hi Joe great vid. How 'bout doing a vid on why we haven't been using electromagnetic acceleration (rail\coil gun) to accelerate high g tolerant (non living) payloads to lower cost of launch ? Tech exists, using it on aircraft carriers to launch planes today. Sure would lower cost of construction for space facilities and cargo loads. This question drives me nuts !!

Don't know why we don't just use spiders. Welln then we'd have to contend with the spider's unions and the union bosses would probably be tarantulas. Some would call for higher wages for their silk. Okay, it might wind up being a big mess. Nevermind.

elon musk is a fraud, and no rocket landed on a barge in the ocean. mind control to major tom.

the "space elevator" is the concept behind every single "space agency." we send balloons straight up. like an elevator. this is the only technology we have to stay suspended in air. what goes up, must come down. wake up sheepies.

I don't like the idea of a moon space elevator. You still have to get to the moon. An earth space-elevator would remove the most expensive part of any space journey.
-
It's a stupid idea. The concept has been thrown around for a long time, but just like a manned mission to Mars, there are far too many problems for it to work.

Man nice video, very articulate and thought out, also very open minded. You deserve more subscribers, very funny also ~ i have a feeling you are Transhumanist(so am i).

Elon Musk and that Canadian company should collaborate

There are some good SF books that have space elevators (sometimes called "beanstalks") as main parts of the plot. Charles Sheffield's "The Web Between The Worlds" contains a possible way to build one. Arthur C. Clark's "The Fountains of Paradise" has one too. David Gerold's "Jumping Off The Planet" features a ride up one...and it's bigger than you might expect.
Personally I think that sky hooks are more likely. Less strength required, fewer terrorist issues, but it still makes getting to orbit cheaper, and not a whole lot harder than a plane ride. For anyone not familiar with the idea, it's basically a long cable with CG in orbit, and ends a few hundred miles long that rotate down into the atmosphere, then up into space as the whole thing moves in low Earth orbit. You fly up, dock with the end, and ride up and get launched. Incoming ships docking at the upper end make up the lost momentum...or you could work against Earth's magnetic field to speed it back up.

You deserve so much more attention, each one of your videos is very informative and fascinating.
-
I will be in line for almost anything that gets me in or close to space as soon as it becomes reasonably affordable!
-
I haven't been on for a while, you have now got over 7000 subscribers. Nice!
-
You man deserve a lot more subscribers and viewers than you have

Suggestion for a future video: Why the North Pole of earth is shifting?
-
It would be pretty interesting to have a space elevator but yeah that debris field wrapping around the world isn't very reassuring and with all the other potential hazards it's a bit too risky.
-
you should do a video about human cloning and the biological and ethical consequences
-
so i stumbled upon your channel as i was searching for random science videos and such. when i first found it, the quality of your videos felt as if you were a massive channel with lots of experience. keep up the great work!

Love you channel! (All 3+ years of it!) I only skipped a few car thought videos and I'm looking forward to future vids!
