Cosmology: the physical edges of the Universe - Edges of Astronomy 2014
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
This session will be an exploration of the edges of the Universe, and the edges of knowledge. There are things that we cannot in principle observe. Are there things we cannot in principle know? Which is the most fundamental limit: the small and large edges of space, the edges of time, the edges of knowledge, or something else? A woman talking about the big bang myth. ugh.

There is a problem with the conclusions of this paper regarding Hawking radiation. The description of Hawking radiation relies on the quantum theory assumption that particle pairs come into and out of existence for a very short time. This is allowed in quantum theory due to the uncertainty principle as long as the time is very short.
The problem is that if Hawking radiation really happened then we would be violating the law of conservation of energy because the particle pairs exist for an indefinite time with one particle falling into the event horizon and one radiating away. Hawking radiation has never been observed and it is reasonable that if the theory were true then we should see the Hawking Radiation and we do not.
The fact that we do not see Hawking Radiation is a strong indicator that the idea of quantum fluctuations is wrong.
Quantum fluctuations have never been observed directly and we need to look at the results which depend on the idea of quantum fluctuations for an alternative explanation.

I think there is a difference between what we can see and how much we can know. We can create theories and check them against what we can observe. Unfortunately the Big Bang theory doesn't answer all the questions and we need to think again.

We have misunderstood the nature of the CMBR.

in the beginning? Is she saying the universe had a beginning?

Dark energy is just part of the whole inflation propaganda machine. My guess would be that "dark energy" is by definition "Nothingness" aka null/zip/zero/nada/void/zilch which is why "it" does not reflect light.

Until minute five (5:11) copy'n'paste out of the book: "Astrophysical Concepts - Fourth Edition" f. Martin Otto Harwit (2006); "The Universe We Inhabit", p:508; ch:11. I'm out.

Is Barnes married?

Good audio and video. Accessable and interesting content. 4.5 out of 5 for a non-mathematician

Alessandro is really good looking.

Dr. Luke Barnes reminds me of my physics professor. The physical charateristics and the same sence of humor.

Wow, I don't normal comment but this is possible the biggest amount of pish I have heard.

I have information they are looking for. The big picture. The answer to one of the questions; Would having the big picture end science? NO, it would only give a direction for many new studies. Much like the periodic table Mendeleev did not close the door he opened it.

The large quasar group and quasars showing no redshift falsify expansion theory and the big bang along the way.
Dark matter and dark energy are mathematical constructs, built as ad hoc fudge factors to save an entire paradigm that is dead in the water.
Halton Arp was right.

string theory where does the string go threading the loop to infinity. fish magic was here

What are all these people that make their living talking about dark energy and dark matter going to do when the electric universe theory is actually confirmed in the lab as well as in what we observe. I ask because there are so many problems with the gravitational cosmology it's not funny and it should have been thrown out decades ago. Their is no need for silly things like dark energy and black wholes in the electric universe theory and from what I can see it is a lot more predictive capable than the gravitational theory is??????????
