But the Sun is tiny compared to the solar system which is tiny compared to the distance to the next star. Oh, did we mention that there are over 100 billion stars in our galaxy (which is about 100,000 light years in diameter) which is one of hundreds of billions of galaxies in just the observable universe (which might be infinite for all we know). Don't feel small. We find it liberating. Your everyday human stresses are nothing compared to this enormity that we are a part of. Enjoy the fact that we get to be part of this vastness! About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content. For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything Subscribe to Khan Academy’s Cosmology & Astronomy channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChNPnEkW8LYZ5Rwi8_A2-DA?sub_confirmation=1 Subscribe to Khan Academy: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=khanacademy

OKAY

Dark matter and dark energy.
-
One dislike ....must be a moron.
-
You nailed it! There is no arguing against stupidity and deliberate, stubborn ignorance. If you could reason with relidiots, there would be no relidiots!
-
If god doesn't exist then what is giving universe enough energy to continue to keep expanding that kind of energy is unimaginable.
-
Don't waste your time, they don't come to these videos to learn anything, they just come to preach, just look at his name. There is no argument good enough against faith, ignorance and indoctrination.
-
i think you misunderstand how god-forsaken these timescales are. you would loose your mind millions of times over before even hitting the 1 billion year mark. there's about 25 mutations per generation in the human species' genetic code. even assuming our ancestors procreated every 25 years, in 4 billion years you would have 4 billion mutations, and that's ignoring many factors. it's enough mutations to redo our entire genome. the question is: how *wouldn't* life evolve over these time scales?
-
your question is old but the answer is that dinosaurs were probably cold blooded and this would have caused problems for them to evolve intelligence like us. The smarter dinosaurs would have been the meat eaters but they only had to be slighty smarter than the already dumb plant eaters.
-
Still not enough time for that. Not for the sheer complexity that we see.
-
It was a joke.
-
I don't think you understand the philosophical objection I was raising. You have to understand what probability and statistics really are and why they're anathema to a cause-effect worldview in Science.
-
You're right because science and math have nothing to do with each other. lol. No offense, I just couldn't resist.
-
Sal should seriously get a TV show on PBS or something!!
-
And you "underestimate" Science by discussing "probability."
-
It's amusing how you pretend this "dumb" species is also intelligent enough to supposedly-fully understand the process that led to our existence.
-
But remember, evolution doesn't plan for anything resembling perfection or even "quite good". Evolution only creates things that are just about good enough to not die. So the human mind is just very slightly above "too dumb too live". ^^
-
@INMATE2468 Evolution is a blind, dumb process that doesn't have planning, foresight, or a pre-determined direction... it just "makes it up as it goes along," if you like. The dinosaurs never had any reason to evolve intelligence, even though they had more than enough time to do so, because evolution isn't directed towards intelligence. Be glad that we were lucky enough to evolve it! :) Hope that helps!
-
@MotoPayton with these laws of physics, of course
-
@Techra exaclty, evolution should be taught with an astronomical perspective in schools

I found your videos to help me with my anatomy class...which it did. But I've just been going through tons of them now just to learn things that I've either wondered about or have just piqued my interest due to the titles of the videos. THANK YOU! Hours of free educational and fun videos at that!
