Cosmic Journeys - Day of the Asteroid
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Asteroids racing through the solar system have smashed into Earth before. What are the chances we'll get hit again? Armed with new defensive technologies, scientists are getting ready for the day, a decade, century from now: the Day of the Asteroid.

capture some use them to deflect. keep them lined up wanting use. rockets mass drivers or other pushers. smash them into the big one.

7:27 Wow, I didn't know that PT extinction could've been caused by an antipodal asteroid impact in Antarctica. What is your source on it?

Anyone else ever wonder, w.t.f. we compared cataclysmic events to before the "Hiroshima Bomb"?

the gulf of mexico was formed by asteroid impact.

Just another atheist claiming religion is bad.
the circumference of the earth was calculated precisely in the middle ages in the east by people who devoutly worshiped god. not atheists.. -
If you fly in an airplane every year, once you will crash and die. It makes no sense to worry about it. You could move to the north- or south pole. The risk for a frontal impact will be a little lower there. Enjoy it and have a nice time.

that "intelligent design" New Era bullshit makes me laugh. "intelligent design" is nothing but a satanic way to not talk about Jesus Christ...

There is no way in the world to "land" on an asteroid or comet.
No gravity to speak of.
Even a big craft would simply float away.
An impact might be possible but not a landing.
Nor would it be possible to intercept an asteroid or comet headed for earth and alter its course. The speed of such an object would be accelerating as it approached the sun.
Any earth launched craft would have to be travelling really fast to reach the object before it was too late. This would not be something in a solar orbit that we could plot an intercepting orbital path but rather something approaching earth on a collision course and speeding up in the process. Any craft leaving earth to intercept would not be able to get there, and then somehow stop and completely reverse its trajectory to match that of the object. It might be possible to hit it with a nuclear missile and blow it to pieces, but any plan that requires matching the object's trajectory is mere fantasy. And to even suggest it as a physical possiblity shows either cluelessness or deception. -
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA Dick Ronstein you are back, I love when it´s you...

Spacerip really stands apart from all other famous YouTube channels. This is the only channel which has great and professional content that explains science in an entertaining way.Watching this channel is better than watching silly vlogs of famous YouTubers.Carry on the great work! Science mixed with entertainment is a great combination and I like it,because I am not spiritual in religious sense but I am scientific spiritual.

By the time an asteroid hits hopefully we´ll all be dead from run-away climate change so it won´t really matter. Phew!
