Collection of Atari 400/800 XL/XE 8-bit computer games
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
It's been a very long time since I did any video game videos, so here are eight games all in one video: Ms. Pac-Man, Pitfall, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Q*Bert, Beamrider, Space Invaders, and River Raid, all played on my Atari XE Game System. Introduced in 1987, the XE Game System was the last and most advanced member of the Atari 8-bit home computer series, but all of these games also play fine on the original Atari 400 and 800 computers from 1979. As you can see, the graphics and sound are far superior to the Atari 2600, and some of these games are even on par with the Nintendo. This was all played in real time with no editing, so there is a slight pause between each game as I turn the console off, swap cartridges, and turn it back on. Yes, this was played on a real original Atari, not an emulator! Unfortunately I was using a cheap USB video capture device, so the latency of the display on the computer screen made me play rather poorly at times, and the video compression just couldn't keep up with all the fast-moving objects during Frogger, so the quality is quite bad on that game.

The games on the 8bit computers and 7800 were actually pretty good looking for their time. Still "behind" Master System or Genesis, but they had some really good arcade ports, etc.
-
So, this is a Super Atari 2600?
-
So I take the cartridges from the 400/800 and the XL versions are all compatible with the XE?

Yes, I know... I need to get an SIO2SD so I can download and play all the Atari games I want!
-
That has to be the best looking Donkey Kong I've seen
-
it was on Atari XL, XE, it was not on Atari 2600, and I am not talking about adventure.

can anyone tell me what is the name of this video game on Atari that I have been looking for quiet sometime? I can tell you what it is about, the game its this green dragon, you have to press the fire button to fly, the mission starts from the cave, and you have to collect eggs from other places, and then you have to bring the eggs back to the cave. While you collect eggs, you encounter numerous monsters. Can anyone tell me the name of the game please? thanks!

@Lachlant1984 You can see my Atari XE in the video "Atari original vs. Sega Genesis remake (Part 1)".
-
Could you please review the XE like you did the 420ST +? I'd love to learn more about these machines, I think they're very interesting.
-
Awesome video! I want to get an XEGS at some point.
-
That Pitfall is virtually the same exact boring game.

I love old 8-bit games, I sill remember playing on my Amstrad, Spectrum and C64. The only Atari I ever had was the 2600 and that's long gone now it "died" over 10 years ago. I might make a second channel where I review most of the old C64 Spectrum and Amstrad games, but that will be a few months away because ill need to review few first.

Have you seen MN12Bird's tutorial on how to play video games while recording the footage onto your computer? It's quite informative.
