Subscribe to Naked Science - http://goo.gl/wpc2Q1 Every other Wednesday we present a new video, so join us to see the truth laid bare... Ours is said to be a Godless age, yet billions remain faithful to religions thousands of years old. Scientist Colin Blakemore examines Christianity's relationship with science, arguing that science is the biggest challenge Christianity has ever faced. For more than 1,500 years Christians saw the bible as the primary source of knowledge, but in the 17th century a new movement emerged that challenged the Christian view of the world, the Scientific Revolution. During the Renaissance the rising power of science forced the Catholic Church to silence rebellious scientists. By the 19th century the enlightenment had given rise to a new generation of scientists who pushed Christianity into retreat. If science continues to make discoveries that conflict with Christian Doctrine will the Scientific Revolution ultimately make Christianity redundant? "Christianity: A History" is a documentary series presenting alternative views on the history of the Christian faith, looking at its origins, development and turbulent past. High profile British personalities examine a religion that has particular resonance for them. In doing so, they bring their own perspectives to a challenging and comprehensive debate that explores Christianity's role in shaping the modern world.

oh brother. Accusing those who disagree with things against the bible as IRRATIONAL.
The bible is the word of god. if not say so. Then place faith in human, tailless primates for some, ability to know what is true. -
not redundant but ridiculous

2012 Prophecy - The End of the World - Three Years Left
The 2012 Mayan Calendar Prophecy depicts an end to the world, as we know it. There are only three years left. Is there any truth to it? Is it just another Y2K media blast filled with fear and foreboding?
You know as I do that what happens three years from now is still up in the air. Scientists and scholars do not agree on the translation of the Mayan codex that refers to December 21, 2012, let alone its meaning.
The meaning of the 2012 calendar is left to new age philosophers, modern day doomsday soothsayers, publicists, and moviemakers. Did you see the movie 2012? That was one heck of a ride.
What does the calendar say? Literally, the Mayan calendar ends on that date. The Mayan Long Calendar cycle ends. But, does that imply the end of all time? Our calendar ends on December 31, at midnight. It does not mean that time has ended.
We all know or at least we expect a new dawn when we arise. Did the Mayan intend anything different? You be the judge.
The words in the codex refer to a Mayan god, Bolon Yookte' K'uh. This god is a god of war, conflict, and the underworld.
In 1966, Michael D. Coe, famed archaeologist and anthropologist, wrote in his book, The Maya, that on that date Bolon Yookte' K'uh will rise up and vanquish the degenerate of the world.
The end of the world enthusiasts use that interpretation along with forecasted high solar activity, alignment of the Sun with the center of the galaxy, and references to the end of days by other cultures and civilizations as the basis for their beliefs. Could the Second Coming and Armageddon be near?
Did you know that even the interpretation of the date in the text varies? The date December 21, 2012 is not the only date interpreted by scholars. Some think the date should be December 23, 2012.
The difference in dates is due to which calendar is used to work backwards, Gregorian or Julian. The problem is that there is a leap year between year one BC and year one AD. It is a little more complicated, but that is the simple explanation.
You probably have an opinion about December 21, 2012. Many of us do. However, it raises the question as to why so many are concerned about this date. Is it an innate global consciousness? Is it Hollywood publicity?
It comes down to your own system of beliefs and fears. We have three years left before we will know for sure. I, for one, want to learn all that I can both fact and conjecture, just in case. Maybe you should too. -
Poor dumb Christian believers. If they only knew that the who Jesus thing was invented by the ancient Romans for the sole purpose of power and control; thus the Roman Catholic church - obey the church or suffer the consequences with torture or execution.. People still believe out of ingrained fear. What kind of a way is that to live?

WASHINGTON DC – USA – Scientists at the Institute of Historical Research have finally released their findings after five years of dedicated research.
The scientists, headed by Doctor Julius Sanreso, welcomed the research findings and said that it would be in the interests of those who believe in such nonsense as organised religion or creationism to accept the fact that religious books were written by men as a control system.
“Just think for one second, if ‘God’ or a ‘messenger of God’ had written that particular religious book/bible, how come the writings only occur within a very limited period in human history? Also, consider the fact, that a human writing on a piece of paper, or a few pieces of paper, is not the word of ‘God’. If they were really written by a universal God or entity, the books would not be limited to some pre-medievel costume drama but would encompass all universality, history, the future and science. Language is something created by man, not an all-seeing, all encompassing entity. God would presumably be universal and timeless as well as all-knowing, as is the universe, therefore these man-written books and scriptures, are just that, man-written linguistically created nonsense used to control men and women thousands of years ago. Why would ‘God’ write anything anyway? One must consider the fact that, even now, there are religious zealots and ordinary people still entrenched in a control belief system that is so far removed from reality that it borders on madness. There is no rational or scientific way thatorganised religions can have a modicum of truth or factual reality because of the very reason that these books are entombed in the time that they were written. These books should therefore simply be viewed as limited parables and historical fiction, as well as a lesson in how millions of people can be so easily controlled.”
The research paper also came to the conclusion that reward/punishment religions, as control systems, were losing their grip on most of the population of the world and only a few die-hard fanatics and delusional maniacs were carrying on with the flame of idiocy.
“The game is up for all religions, how long can this sham carry on, with their ridiculous outdated ceremonies? The priests are deceivers, and they need to come up with some pretty radical solutions to their thousand year old magic trick. People aren’t as dumb or easily swayed as they used to be thousands of years ago, they actually have reasoning powers and can see through the utter nonsense of organised control systems like religion.”
The problem for the world’s political leaders, is that slowly, humans who were controlled for so many years by fictitious writings, may suddenly lose their controlled ‘faith’. This could be quite dangerous, because it would mean that these people would suddenly wake up and realise that they have been fooled for so long by being communally hypnotised.
“We must ensure that the people who have been fooled for so long by fictitious belief systems utilised to control humans do not get too angry when they realise that what they believe in is nonsense written by humans utilising human created language. This could be dangerous for society, so we must either let them carry on believing their fiction or try to somehow support them when they realise the truth,” Dr Sanreso said. -
The greatest mystery (yet to be solved) is how the Universe "came into existence" without the 'aid' of a Supreme Being. And don't you 'dare' tell me that the Universe has "ALWAYS EXISTED". That makes 'no' sense. (All) 'physical matter' has a BEGINNING...and an END.

uhg, this is an extremely unhistoric view of how religion and the development of science actually occurred :S It's saddening that people put propaganda in the place of history, just to influence how we perceive the world we live in now.

Science challenges all religion to some degree not just Christianity. Christianity fought scientific progress because science progressed differently than say Muslim or Jewish scientists. Muslim scientist seemed to focused on functional useful science, like mathematics and medicine and navigation astronomy. It seems the Muslim scientists stayed relevant by being useful rather than challenging the dogma. I'd have to check on that but think the way this statement is phrased it seems you are saying that science only challenges Christianity.
