awesome talk, Chomsky is great. Even when I think that Naturalism is probably wrong, and Realism is an erroneous dogma.
The subject transcends the object, matter is an abstraction, awareness is irreducible and non emergent from nothing, thats my position. -
As far as the Middle East I just do not get that Chomsky seems to think that the recognition of the state of Palestine as a state ethnically cleansed of Jews, where no Jews can live and where there is no real government, and the Palestinian government routinely shoots other political party workers. Somehow the Paletstinians would refrain from violence against Israel when their stated goal is the destruction of Israel, and fixing their country would be a step to make that easier.
Why shouldn't their be Israel people living in Palestine when there are so many Palestinians living in Israel? Would Palestinians in Israel be forced to move back to Palestine?
The whole idea that this is some kind of answer really begs the question ... what is Chomsky thinking on this issue? -
aint official, stolen from ASU Origins run by Krauss

Human language differs from scientific language in that "it was not created"! HorseHockey! Human language is created and expounded upon daily. I am very disappointed in Chomsky. Lawrence was polite enough to not argue the point.
-
Chomsky is an absolute Genius. He can talk about virtually anything, and his grasp on complex topics, although not always 100%, for a man nearing his 90's is astounding. For sure one of the greatest minds not just in this century, but any. Krauss is also a great interviewer

I am thinking about Mr Noam Chomsky, if & when he dies , the world will lose one of the greatest intellectuals it has ever produced. What an wonderful human being he is. I/we pray to God to help him live for another 70 years or more. I also propose the Nobel Committee award the Nobel Prize to Mr. Chomsky right now. to Thanks to Mr Krauss for doing this wonderful programme. Thank you,

Can they get Palestinians to stop the rain of rockets into Israel while the talks go on?

I like noam chomsky and it's a very interesting debate about politics, linguistics. I do agree with his statements about many points. However, I really have a lot of doubts on his rather one sided vision about what is imperialism, maybe in his perspective the US were the most brutal force in the twentieth century, what about the Ussr imperialist behaviour in neighbouring countries? What about conflicting imperialist behaviours of other political entities? What about his statement that yes need to challenge religious beliefs in Western people, not the "poor" peasant from Peru because he has some good reasons to be a fundamentalist? I found it highly patronising in a way and might explain why he can travel to hezbollah controlled region in Lebanon without raising his very critical nature? The other thing is his point of view on artificial intelligence, it is true as a result of the "failures" and false hopes from research in that field in the eighties, but what about research of the past fifteen years in that field? Assuming that artificial intelligence is like a submarine knowing how to swim is thinking of it as machines that can never acquire intelligence. That raises a lot of questions on how and when something can be considered as intelligent, not just programmed to do a task, but his answer feels unsatisfactory as I feel that artificial intelligence is becoming more and more as a possibility.

very cool interview, what an honor!
-
33:08 yeah that's indirectly pretty antisemitic, though really it's just anti everyone thats not evangelical, I think if you wanted actual antisemitism Hamas might be a good place to start, might ruin the Israel = bad narrative though eh Noam.
-
Chomsky is an anti-western terrorist.
-
Good job not letting the supposed honoured guest get his last word in at around the 43:00 minute mark. Egotistical maniacs suck as Krauss should not be allowed to interview people such as Chomsky.
-
Chomsky comes across as a very reasonable and rational person, but once the subject of US and/or Israel comes along he goes full retard, while maintaining his intellectual tone. This is not uncommon among intellectuals, but rarely this extreme.
-
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you for this public discussion.
-
You guys are right. America sucks. We should all look to Islamic dictatorships as an example to live our lives. Why didn't I realize this sooner??
-
15:04 Language isn't created? Really?
-
Chomsky is a master at what he does..he helps people learn to think rationally. Every time I hear him lecture or debate, my paradigms are challenged..and I grow.
-
Well it's not what most of us think here in Lithuania about US. Now it's a bit more clear why some countries think that Russia is better than US, it's just a same thing from a different perspective what we experience here. Truth is the most important thing, but this truth hurts a lot.

This made me discover Noam Chomsky. He's been on my radar a long time, but never really listened. I did now, and I liked what I heard.
