Developed throughout the early and middle 20th century, the current formulation was finalized in the mid 1970s upon experimental confirmation of the existence of quarks. Since then, discoveries of the bottom quark (1977), the top quark (1995) and the tau neutrino (2000) have given credence to the standard model. Because of its success in explaining a wide variety of experimental results, the standard model is sometimes regarded as a theory of almost everything. Still, the standard model falls short of being a complete theory of fundamental interactions because it does not incorporate the physics of general relativity, such as gravitation and dark energy. The theory does not contain any viable dark matter particle that possesses all of the required properties deduced from observational cosmology. It also does not correctly account for neutrino oscillations (and their non-zero masses). Although the standard model is theoretically self-consistent, it has several unnatural properties giving rise to puzzles like the strong CP problem and the hierarchy problem. Nevertheless, the standard model is important to theoretical and experimental particle physicists alike. For theoreticians, the standard model is a paradigm example of a quantum field theory, which exhibits a wide range of physics including spontaneous symmetry breaking, anomalies, non-perturbative behavior, etc. It is used as a basis for building more exotic models which incorporate hypothetical particles, extra dimensions and elaborate symmetries (such as supersymmetry) in an attempt to explain experimental results at variance with the Standard Model such as the existence of dark matter and neutrino oscillations. In turn, the experimenters have incorporated the standard model into simulators to help search for new physics beyond the standard model from relatively uninteresting background. Recently, the standard model has found applications in other fields besides particle physics such as astrophysics and cosmology, in addition to nuclear physics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_Model .

The Higgs has been found biiiiiiiiiiiitches!
-
I think u guys at CERN recently proved the Higgs boson existence
-
I thought gravity was a force.

Marijuana brought me here :D

The higgs doesn't complete jack shit anymore than Maxwell's equations did....there is no such thing as compete. Your getting more stuff into one model but if you want to let's say build a radio you probably just are going to use Maxwell's equations. If you want to give a mathematician something to do you are going to try to put em all together. I suppose it's possible to discover a new energy source or electronic device using the standard model but i have not seen anybody jump on that yet. ...so that's a bad sign.

There's more physicists than you can shake a stick at. What the shit is going on. ? With so many scientists one would think.... you fill in the rest.

The standard model pains me... The most fundamental truth scientists and and physicists can't wrap their heads around is this. A theory or model that gives correct answers does not mean it is the right model/theory. They need to stop trying to prove the theories right and start trying to prove them wrong by coming up with better models that match with observations. Starting from scratch models are the only way the scientific community is going to break through [paradigm shift (flat-earth -> almost spherical earth)]. Need to stop carrying the baggage of old theories and use our creative minds to come up with new theories that match all past observed experiments utilizing basic intuitive logic as the moderator. Correct answers can have multiple explanations from different perspectives... Another way to check that we're headed down the wrong path is the following mantra: One wrong answer can completely disprove a theory. The fact that the Higgs Boson did not have the correct predicted mass is a wrong answer, so the theory should be put to the side and effort put into a new better theory.

There will always be unanswered questions, for we are limited in
perception and intelligence. But the purpose is the voyage, not the
destination. Best we can do is to enjoy it. As T.S. Elliot wrote: ""Wipe
your hand across your mouth, and laugh; the worlds revolve like ancient
women gathering fuel in vacant lots.". -
Inner space: There is no end to inner space either. The truth is, there has to be an infinite number of universes inside every atom in our body. If you take a piece of cheese and cut it in half, and cut the half in half and keep going, you could cut forever, and you will never run out of something to cut.
You cannot make nothing out of something; it is impossible. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, and all matter is a form of energy. If you could make nothing out of something, you would be destroying energy, which is not possible. This is how you can use deductive logic to know something that could not be known any other way.

Beautifully concise!
-
so what are the quarks made of?
-
love the video HATE the music
-
The video says that the theory is beautiful, unlike what I have been reading about the standard model for so long. It's ugly, and it's incomplete, it doesn't explain everything.
-
Please delete the music so I can hear what's being said.
-
There's nothing even remotely beautiful about this model. It's already overly complicated with its high amount of free parametrars and it doesn't get to the bottom of any of the big questions. I mean it's easy to predict something when you avoid naming numbers like mass, for example. Btw, the background music is tacky.

Note:Gene therapy or mitosis: the graviton must be present in the chromosome.
-
why only protons, electrons, neurons considered as main particals ?
-
Just a recommendation: next time when creating an informative or educational video, you might want to turn down the pain in the neck music when people are talking (especially when they have an accent)! :)
