Whoops! You have to laugh that Cronkite was assuring people that the hatch falling over did not happen in space! I was laughing so hard when you could hear the banging to fix the simulator hatch, while Cronkite was going about his business!
This simulation had to cost CBS a lot of money. Pretty cool considering the technology of the day. CBS always had the best space program coverage for Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. Cronkite's ability to convey complex information in layman's terms was a big reason. Cronkite's best work was in Apollo after Wally Schirra started working with him. -
