Lecture in 2013 - Prof. Ford shows a reconstruction of the WWII space-bomber designed by Eugen Sänger, and shows that the present-day design for the Skylon space-plane is basically the same design.

aha ... seems you don't know the least what you are talking about. Of course the renderings are not very good ... but that is not the point. Eugen Sänger was decades ahead of his time ... and an outstanding engineer.

Duh. The idea of a plane going into orbit with its own propulsive force is not very hard to come up with. Pretty much as soon as Chuck Yager broke the sound barrier, people must have thought this was the next step. Only ReactionEngines is trying to actually doing it because they've found a way to make an hypersonic airbreathing rocket engine. Otherwise, the idea was pretty much in everyone's mind.
