Blender: Solar System Animation
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
A simple animation of orbiting/rotating planets done for a computer science class. Modelled/animated/rendered using Blender, which is freaking awesome. ** DISCLAIMER: Hey guys, no, this isn't a scientific to-scale animation of the solar system. The only thing here that can be considered accurate is, perhaps, the order of the planets from the sun, and I'm sure even that can be debated. Everything else is pure crap. This was simply an exercise given to teach us how to animate in Blender, it had nothing to do with astronomy. I feel a little silly even having to explain this, but seems some of you have proven me otherwise. Also; how the hell has this gotten so many views? Youtube is weird.

LOL do you people even have a clue how ridiculous your objections about the sun moving are? When you film a movie do you try to make it obvious that the earth is spinning turning around the sun and the sun around the galaxy and the galaxy moving apart from most other galaxy at the same time as it is moving within its amass and super amass relative to the gravitational movement of other galaxies... Or you just try to have a nice focus on whatever you are showing... Give that kid a break if youre so smart make your own better and we will be impressed... Its easy to find what is wrong in anything... much harder to improve on it... So get a life, do better or shut up...

check out minecraft maybe you can make some of minecraft videos

Excellent work!
-
how did you colour the ring?
-
I meant the sun actually moves through space, it doesn't just randomly spin in one place. Whatever, nice animation.

Excellent Video of how the solar system does NOT operate! Need to add a Z Axis since the sun is traveling in a helical trajectory: watch?v=toTd2dQjEes

Also those orbit times aren't scale

The sun is moving..
