When the audience first enters into the Bird Song Diamond, they are adjusting to the different viewpoint, seeing from multiple perspectives what the bird would find interesting -- close ups of the ground, worms and water. They also encounter a person donning large origami shaped wings and standing in the space. They hear bird songs from many angles beamed through 20 parametric speakers surrounding the entire space -- this is a site specific (Large Space) and habitat specific art installation by Victoria Vesna in collaboration with evolutionary biologist Charles Taylor, physicist Takashi Ikegami in the EMP largest virtual reality space in the world designed by engineer Hiroo Iwata. Bird songs were provided by Dr. Reiji Suzuki from University of Nagoya. EMP graduate students collaborated on the development of this event: (Aisen Carolina Chacin, 3rd year; Masa Jazbec, 3rd year; Hikaru Takatori, 2nd year; Takeru Oozu, 1st year)
