Beginner Telescope Advice
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
I'll talk more about buying telescopes in future hangouts, but here is some preliminary advice... I think this will be the last one for this particular hangout. See you next week! Whew, working with the YouTube video editor is very time consuming, I wish I could download the hangout and get better edits done faster.

There aren't "good" dobsonians with low - medium apertures. Everything under 300€ is just some sort of tabletop dobsonian, and i don't have a good table in my garden.
The Celestron Astromaster 130 eq md looks quite good. I don't know if the mount is good, but i think it will be good enough for visual stuff. Is the motor drive worth the 40€? or should i buy the version without it? -
Great advice, thank you.

This video gives me chills down my spine every time I watch it.

Great tips, thanks. I will buy my first vey soon and was thinking to spend 350-400€ max.
-
Thanks!

Dobs come with or without motors. Any telescope is good, but you need a good eyepiece adapter and maybe a camera mount.

Hi Tony, Great stuff! My time zone doesn't permit me to join your hangouts unfortunately so I couldn't participate so hopefully you can help me with these 2 questions: The Dobsonian telescopes don't have a motorized planetarian finder / follower do they? Second question: What would be a good telescope (in your opinion if you want to connect a Pro DSLR? Thank!! :)

I had a telescope once, but I only had a balcony where I could use it so I placed it there. Few days later I got a visit by the police. Turned out my nabors thought I was spying on them. But were I? We will never know.

I thank you a bunch for this info I didn't know I needed :D My dad is thinking of buying one, and I'd like to play with it too, so will pass the video on to him :) Btw, looking forward to next hangout ;)

thanx for info

@tdarnell Try windows movie maker for your editing, it's free and does a pretty good HD upload for youtube. Also what would you think of a celestron nexstar 4se for a beginner scope?
-
Can you make a more proper video on this topic? This felt very rushed, but I am absolutely interested in the subject (as I'm sure others are). It doesn't matter if you're repeating information that already exists elsewhere.. the important part is that people are receiving this information :) I bought a Celestron Nexstar 114GT and eyepiece kit from my boss a while back.. and ended up selling it on Craigslist because I couldn't figure out how to use it.

Definitely (good binoculars). The hardest test for binoculars is imaging a star field against a black background. Top choices for astro binoculars include: Carton Adlerblick 10X70,Pentax 20X60, Orion 15X70 Resolux , Fujinon 10X/16X70,and the Oberwerk 15X70.The Nikon Prostars along with Zeiss and Steiners are simply too expensive for beginners. Chinese stuff (Barska and newer Celestron)have mixed reputations-good glass but quality issues.

Binoculars, 10 x 50s are awesome.

The Lightbridge starts at 649$, so it's more than 500$ for the 10 inches. You probably need to get some accessories also I suppose. Getting a used one might be an alternative.
