*BandaiModels* 1/500 Space Battleship Yamato 2199 - Part 1
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
So today I will not make my first model kit for 2014, the 1/500 Scale Space Battleship Yamato from the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 anime series. Like the 1/1000 scale kit that I made last year I will not only build its larger brother but I will also paint it as well. This will be my first entry to the 2014 Mosquitocon model show that's coming up in April. There's lots to talk about this kit so here I go. Please note I got this kit from my good friend at GundamPlanet.com. http://www.gundamplanet.com/

the clear parts are so you can install green LED's.

Very good model ! but this is a pain in the ass to get the weapon AAA tubes on their supports and there are very small parts very hard to get in place.

i have this kit...and it looks to be 1/350 scale...the one before this one is a 1/500 i have it as well...compared both and this kit looks way bigger

Additionally, I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for the time and effort you put into them.

Mine arrived today and I totally agree with you about the box art. It is fantastic and frame worthy.

To clarify the background for the 2010 and 2013 1/500 Yamato models, the 2010 kit was taken from an early model for the Yamato 2199 ship design. The scale was taken off the original SBY's 265-metre length, but was the 2199 design. After that, the 2199 design team increased the size of Yamato to 333 metres long so that the space inside the bridge was to scale. So the 666mm length of this 1/500 kit matches the ship's length in the 2199 remake.

Towards the end of last year I completed the 2010 1/500 Yamato and enjoyed every minute assembling it. Even though the kit snapped together, I glued most of the major parts together. As far as painting the kit, I just followed the exampled you did with the 1/1000 kit and still ended up with positive results, with the only painting being done to the inside of the bridge areas, and the Chimney Stack side mounted searchlights. The rest was done using the Gundam panel line marker, pastels, and Testors dull coat.
