And while the people aboard this SWA flight were marveling at the shuttle launch, one astronaut says to another, "I can see an airplane from here!"

Right place at the right time... just an understatement.

I can't believe commercials could be cleared for such close distances!? Awesome!

I feel like the true awesomeness of this moment was lost on some shallow intellects.

An American Airlines flight a year later saw a different shuttle launch (the very last one.) The passengers on the two flights reacted... differently.
AA pax: Hey look out the right window everybody! It's the Space Shuttle! Yeah, it's Discovery's last flight. I knew it the launch was today, but I never thought I'd see it. Incredible!
SW pax: Aw shee-ut there it is! WOOOOO! See the farr-bawl? WOOOOO! That is a fuckin' launch! -
So did it make it to its destination?

I had the chance to go see an Atlas V rocket launch at Canaveral this summer. One of the most incredible times in my life, if you love rockets and understand how they work and what is happening on the mission, it makes everything so much better. These people were just amazed probably because they have never seen something like that before. I mean, them being in the air is cool, but I personally think being on the ground is more breathtaking.
