I study stars that are much bigger and more massive than the sun. I also teach students who want to know more about those stars and about everything that exists in the heavens. I have always wanted to do astronomy, in fact since I was 10 years old. It is my true passion. I don't really know why, though obviously there were some magnificent books and television programmes with beautiful images. So overall, astronomy is a passion and I have always wanted to pursue it. Astronomy takes up a large part of my life, including my free time, because I try to share my passion with everybody - young and old- through observations, workshops, conferences, many things. Apart from that, my husband is an astronomer as well, so of course we often discuss astronomy at home. But it's not our entire life since we have a little daughter, who we need to take care of. I've always felt the need to do something artistic, so stained-glass is a nice compromise since it allows me to work with interesting materials, make drawings, and also work with my father and continue a family tradition. Their names might not be so known but there have been many female astronomers who have done extraordinary things. So you should really not hesitate, but just go for it! Half of my students are girls. They are often very gifted. It is important to pursue what you really enjoy and not listen to everyone around you. You should just go for it. Maybe you will be the next Nobel Prize winner in astronomy. FR Je m'appelle Yael Nazé, j'ai 35 ans et je suis astronome à l'Université de Liège. En astronomie, j'étudie des étoiles, plus particulièrement des étoiles beaucoup plus grosses et beaucoup plus massives que le soleil. Je donne également des cours à des étudiants qui veulent en savoir plus sur ces étoiles et sur tout ce qu'il y a dans le ciel. J'ai toujours voulu faire de l'astronomie, en fait depuis j'ai 10 ans; c'est vraiment ma passion. Je ne sais pas exactement pourquoi. Evidemment il y avait de magnifiques livres, de magnifiques reportages à la télévision avec de superbes images. Bref, l'astronomie est une passion et j'ai toujours voulu faire ça. L'astronomie, en fait, prend une grande part dans ma vie, également dans mon temps libre puisque j'essaye vraiment de partager ma passion avec tout le monde, des petits aux plus grands... Ça peut passer par des observations, des ateliers, des conférences, ... vraiment beaucoup de choses. Et puis mon mari est astronome, alors forcément on parle beaucoup aussi d'astronomie à la maison. Maintenant ce n'est pas toute notre vie parce qu'on a une petite fille dont on doit s'occuper... J'ai toujours besoin de faire quelque chose d'artistique, alors, bon, les vitraux c'est un bon compromis parce que ça me permet vraiment d'avoir de la matière très amusante à travailler, des desseins à faire et, en plus, de pouvoir travailler avec mon père et continuer une tradition familiale (qui était) dans le verre. On ne connaît peut-être pas leurs noms mais il y a eu de très nombreuses femmes astronomes qui ont fait des choses extraordinaires. Donc, vraiment, il ne faut pas hésiter, il faut vraiment se lancer. La moitié de mes étudiantes sont des filles. Elles sont souvent très douées. Il faut vraiment faire ce que vous aimez, ne pas écouter ce qu'il y a autour et vraiment se lancer. Vous serez peut-être le prochain Prix Nobel en astronomie.
