A target for you: observe the star ALTAIR see if you can see the trail of debris this star is shedding. It spins so fast its flattened at the poles. I can see this trail of embers curve and goes west very dim but can be seen with naked eye.I live 17 miles from Seattle horrible light pollution still visible.

so does a big telescope help at all for astrophotography?
-
A very good explanation, how to use small telescope...

Great video
-
Loved it - thanks!

Guys, why Astro-Tech AT72ED ? Why don't you use a Celestron refractor APO with similar properties ? I checked the prizes , yes Astro-Tech AT72ED is only 400$ instead of a 579$ Sky-Watcher Pro 80 ED APO Refractor, but at least Celestron or Sky watcher, they have brand names. When i google Astro Tech i can't find anything. I really can't be sure that if it is a legit firm or not ? Can you please share your thoughts about this issue ? I really doubt the warranty of the company that it will provide...

I am in market to buy good entry level telescope. When I googled for Astro-AT72ED. is not available. Can you use latest models in the market to create similar video? Thanks for the video by the way.
-
please , you can tell me what the model of the telescope used and camera?
-
Does anyone know if Mr. Chamberlain has a tutorial on how to do the processing using the software and the settings on the camera? I have a Canon Mark ii 5D, wondering if I can use it and what settings I need.
Thank you -
Thanks very informative

very good and informative video, but i would like to know more details, if i have a telescope with equatorial mount and i want to shoot long exposures of an object, does the eq mount tracks the object just pointing the telescope at it ? or do i need some motor?
-
Does anyone think I could have one of these mounted on my ioptron skytracker with a camera? Theoretically speaking, the payload wouldn't be reach (camera + telescope would come down to around 5-6 pounds, payload is 7.7 pounds).

Presenter James Chamberlain uses an Astro-Tech AT72ED telescope. He recommends anyone planning to image with that scope get a field flattener. The mount he uses when imaging is an Orion Sirius EQ-G. The one in the video was a spare that was on-hand in storage. The software was Stellarium.

Impressive work using such basic equipment!
I am just starting out in astrophotography, so I am wondering: 1. What kind(s) of light pollution filtering techniques do you use? Which are the most effective? Optical filters, software filters, both etc? 2. Also, do you use diffuse filters? -
Thanks James for your presentation and for sharing your experience. Much appreciated.
