Watch in highest resolution. If you would like the raw data in this video to follow along, please paypal $3.00 to David@rankinstudio.com. I will then send you the files. Thanks :) My first astrophotography tutorials were quite popular and I had a lot of complaints about them not having sound - so here is one with sound :) See my other work: http://www.rankinstudio.com http://www.facebook.com/rankinstudio Equipment: Camera - IR modified Rebel 450D Mount - Atlas EQ-G (EQMOD) Scope - Orion 254mm F4.7 OTA Corrector - Baader MPCC Guider - Meade Finder Scope with QC PRO9000 Image Info:Shot the night of 11.25.09 from Southern UT Images : 18 Lights @ 180sec ISO 800 - 12 Lights @ 10sec ISO 800 (core data) 9 Darks 10 Bias

Well done! thank you!
Did you post other processing videos? I did not see more in your channel. -
super simple and straightforward tutorial! thanks so much.
-
Awsome tweaking, you have given me some new insight in using photoshop for astro. Great tutorial!
-
A good tutorial, thanks.

Love love loooooove this tutorial! While the basic processes are what I initially figured one would use, it was great to see it in action. (You know, before I spent hours staring at my computer screen crying)
-
im guessing i cant do this with lightroom :(
-
Really easy to follow. Thanks dude.
-
Great tutorial. Having trouble with Orion \t the moment, but will certainly give your method a go. Many thanks
-
Very helpful. Thanks a lot!
-
Thanks Dave, very helpful tutorial, greatly appreciated!
-
Running the data through a high pass filter will also bring out more contrast.
-
What mount do you use with the Orion 10" OTA?
-
What do you mean with "core" data?
-
I suppose you could call them spikes, I could see how that would be an artifact from the mirror. They look cool.
-
Not stupid at all! Yes, it is shorter exposure times. Cheers!
-
Not sure? The spikes? Those come from the secondary mirror spider in the scope. They are an artifact of a Newtonian telescope :)

Hi, video great help. May be bit of stupid question but just getting started into this. the Core images, are these images taken on shorter exposure than the main image? You say you took at iso800 and exposure 150 secs. Is this same for core image? Thanks for great tutorial, just unclear on the core date image. Thanks

This tutorial blew my mind. I've been learning DSS and have utterly failed at proper correction of colors in photoshop. I am going to be sorting through all my previous data over and over again in hopes to actually get this right. Also... I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I've noticed some of your stars that are very bright have sort of a "twinkle" to them, the star "shape" and not round dots. Is this due to your ISO settings? Mine come out as blobs at times, even when focused.

Thanks :)
