Astrophotography Equipment - Selecting an Astro Camera - Part 4
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
This is part 4 of a series of instructional videos to help you get started in Astrophotography. In this video I discuss mono and color CCD astro cameras. The Starshoot III and Starshoot Pro are compared and priced. We also decide if you select the Starshoot III you will not need the TRF-2008. For light pollution we'll use Narrowband filters.

Will an Orion starshoot with a guide scope be compatible with my Celestron 130SLT telescope? My Telescope has computerized tracking but has that margin error as well, therefore I get trails. I have 2 open phone jacks, the one for the remote and the auxiliar. Thanks.

I have Nikon D810, D300 and D40s. which is you can suggest? thank you a lots.

Hi,which dslr camera should i buy to connect it with a refractor telescopes?(in my case i have these telescopes Meade StarNavigator 102mm Refractor Telescope with AudioStar and Celestron NexStar 102 SLT Telescope) As Dylan said,i cant afford prizes up to 500 bucks

Doug, your videos are amazing and i really appreciate all the time and effort you put into your videos! clearly you're very talented but i must say the equipment you suggest are adding up to be very expensive prices, for people like me, earning about 30k a yeah, like the majority of the common person, we simply cant afford these choices, surely dlsr camera would be more recommended for an amateur, purely down to price and simplicity, like a canon 350d, could be picked up for just over 100 quid, ir mod extra 70 quid and there you go. i could go on and on about all the other things that are more affordable to everyone.

Hi Doug! Thank you so much for making this videos, they are very helpful.
I'm buying my first astrophotography equipment and i narrow it down to two options:
Option 1 (for budget issues): http://www.telescopes.com/telescopes/catadioptric-telescopes/celestronadvancedvx6inchscttelescopeplanetaryimagingpackage.cfm)
It comes with the Skyris 618C camera
What's your opinion of that camera? Have had any experience with it?
Option 2: Orion Sirius ED80 EQ-G Computerized GoTo Refractor Telescope package (http://www.telescope.com/Orion-Sirius-ED80-EQ-G-Computerized-GoTo-Refractor-Telescope/p/24281.uts) but in addition i have to buy the Starshoot G3 and the TRF-2008, giving a total of USD2260.
I know that you don't recomend catadioptric telescopes, but for the sake of my wallet: would you consider the first package as a good equipment (considering that later on I can replace the scope for a Apo refractor)?
Thank You. -
Dude, you really need to do a series on equipment that does not require a second mortgage on the house. The prices you are mentioning are insane for the average hobbiest.
-
What do you think about light intensifier en this matter?
-
I think the Canon 60Da would be a good option for people who are interested in astrophotography but also in standard photography.
-
what digital camera would you recommend?
-
CCD cameras are very expensive! Can I use the Nikon D80 AF-S 18-70 instead? Please let me know if I can adapt it someway to the Orion ED80T CF Triplet Apochromatic Refractor.

Hi Leahcherni, I too have never DSLR before, but, I want to learn. I'll be working on a series of tutorials for a DSLR soon. Subscribe to my channel so you'll be notified when new videos come available. Check out Telescopeadapters . com you need to connect your dslr to telescope with an adapter first, then you need to find focus. Focus can be tricky, first try focusing on a bright daytime object, make notes, you may need an extension tube (or Telescope Diagonal) to achieve focus. Can U focus?

I have a astromaster 130eq, canon rebel dslr, and the tring set up. I'm still trying to figure out what settings to use on the camera. Any tips or do you have a video covering dslr cameras? I've watched several and still confused. Thanks.

Yes, you can do a budget AP setup for Planetary imaging, and be under $500. Thanks for the encouragement! And thanks for watching!

you can do Astrophotography under 500 dollars package (telescope and ccd camera+registax) planets nebulas and some deep sky objects for beginners this video should ne mark as advance astrophotography because package price is so high but i like your video keep up the good job

You can start for as little as you want. All I'm doing is outlining a path that will produce quality astrophotos. For $150 you'll be limited to planetary imaging. Please check out my new video series "Planetary Imaging & Processing". Thanks for posting your comments and suggestions.
