Astronomy with MicroStation Relative Orbits of Earth & Sun
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Created in MicroStation http://www.Bentley.com ; this clip examines the congruence of two orbits - that of the Earth around the Sun and the apparent orbit of the Sun around the Earth. Two intuitive, 'thought experiment' - like proofs are offered. First attaches a drawing surface to the orbiting Earth and uses the Sun as a pencil to trace its apparent path. The second one uses the sun rays and flips them as lines of sight from the Earth. They are taken as the position vectors/polar coordinates of the elliptical orbit. And they are transferred with simple translation from the Sun to the Earth - a simple 'shift of origin' transformation, promising an identical ellipse.

The earth's orbit is round.

ok if elliptical orbits are caused by a 2nd gravity source usually a star. I haven't seen a second sun could there be a black hole pulling us into a elliptical orbit?

@Ankur Dalal Thanks for the feedback. I have already uploaded a video on retrograde motion. Let me know if you have difficulty finding it or you find it not clear enough.
