Astronomy Cast Ep. 426: Confirmation Bias I hate to tell you this, but that meat computer in your skull is constantly betraying you. Don’t worry, we’ve all got the same, but fortunately, scientists have learned how this happens, and can help us make sure our science, and lives don’t suffer because of it.

I love strawberry margaritas, too, except it never summoned hurricanes or twisters. But I am psychic because I can predict with 100 % accuracy before I go to the lady's. lol

Great topic, good explanations, and holy COW, crows/ravens are wicked smart (story below). About P.&W. though, the fact that they DID go so far as to clean out the pigeon poo -- as well as triple-checking EVERY OTHER possible mechanical/electrical issue just to be sure -- went just that much further toward "proving" that the detection was a real thing, not an electrical/physical artifact. As +Pamela said, "I can't just delete 1 or 2 data points, it's ALL my data points!" Thus was the CMB was discovered. =D
I saw one raven in Yellowstone make a literal sandwich out of picnic scraps of crackers, cheese & pepperoni before swallowing the whole mess in one go. I wasn't psychologically ready to see him use a plastic knife to spread Grey Poupon on the next one, so we left. ^_^
Wish I could attend the eclipse thing, but there's always the next one, right...? =P
Sound report card, lol. (+Fraser, yours was fine, +Pamela's was a couple of ticks on the loud side though, even in the final YouTube mix. ^_~) -
