What happened to the pre-official banter and hellos???
Hydrothermal vents are superheated water that rises up through the oceanic crust. It's where magma is (relatively) close to the ocean floor. There is NO gas, there is NO sudden rapid phase change like geysers. The "smoke" of these "smokers" is NOT smoke, but dissolved minerals that are carried up from within the oceanic crust. The minerals settle out of the water, forming the towers through which the water continues to flow up out of the crust. The water remains superheated, mixes with the cooler ocean water, and then eventually cools. -
Dr. Pamela Gay is an interesting woman !!! :)

Mostly I thought Fraser's sound was a bit low compared to Pamela, I could hear Pamela from the kitchen while making coffee but could not hear what Fraser said. And then a second or two of Fraser suddenly being very loud.
So Europa just put up a sign saying "Free samples, take one!", cool! :-)
I´d be happy if Musk's system enabled setting up a base on Mars similar to the base on the south pole. 200 people or so but instead of staying over winter they have to wait for Earth and Mars to line up again. And even if the price was 1 million per ticket it would be well within the human space flight budget of NASA. -
Fraser-----start your audio problems like a Musk problem---use a system with at least 2 redundant back ups. All problems can then be revealed by switching out.

Mars. Colonize America 1600 or colonize Australia 1800 or colonize America 1900.
Sailing ships over 200 years no major difference. Colonize America 1900 what a waste of history. -
Geysers blow!

47:10 We don't need to speculate about this... The research has actually been done [1]. Increasing one's lifetime cancer risk a little bit is a small price to pay to GO TO ANOTHER PLANET. In my opinion. The radiation risk on Mars is an issue of chronic exposure. There is no risk of death from acute exposure except during the trip to Mars.

As a New Zealander who has visited our geysers many times, I had no idea how rare they were!
