There certainly isn’t a shortage of them on the App Store, but once in awhile a revolutionary app comes along that we can’t say enough fantastic things about. Arloon Solar System is one such app that left us amazed, impressed, and ultimately speechless. It’s not often that an app can leave a reviewer speechless when it comes to summarizing the overall review experience, but Arloon Solar System did just that. This incredible educational app developed by ARLOON for iPhone and iPad is a borderline work of art and features amazing graphics, animations, and more. Arloon Solar System aims to teach both kids and adults about various celestial bodies in our solar system. From the different planets to man-made objects and our own Earth and Moon, pretty much everything is covered within the app. Users are free to explore everything it offers, which is quite a lot. Comprehensive educational apps tend to be a bit cluttered and disorganized, but Arloon Solar System is remarkably easy to navigate. The app flows naturally and topics are well-organized and easy to move through. Arloon Solar System is also highly interactive, so users are encouraged to tap around the screen and interact with what they see. Arloon Solar System uses more than just visual aids to teach kids and adults about our solar system. There are helpful educational tidbits in each topic, but the nice part is that you don’t have to worry about reading through an essay. Information is concise and to the point, but it’s very easy to understand. While Arloon Solar System uses visual aids and facts to teach, there is one fantastic feature that I was truly impressed with. This is the augmented reality feature, which lets users bring objects on the screen to life. Most of the topics in Arloon Solar System support the augmented reality feature, which can be activated by tapping the eye button (if available) at the top of the screen. In order to take advantage of this awesome visual experience, you need to have an object available such as the official Arloon augmented reality card (found here) or a piece of media such as a magazine or book. Whatever you choose, it must have a variety of objects on it. Once you’ve located a suitable object, place it on a flat surface and hold your iPhone or iPad directly above it. When your device’s camera turns on, move it around until the smiley face on the right side of the screen turns green. Once this happens, click the camera button and the object will appear on your screen. Arloon Solar System does a fantastic job of guiding users through the process of setting up augmented reality. Overall, Arloon Solar System is an incredible educational app for iPhone and iPad that takes users on a fantastic journey through our solar system. Not only is the app easy to use, but it contains so much useful information and visual aids that it’s perfect for home and classroom use. When it comes to the $1.99 price, I feel that it might even be a bit conservative considering how amazing the app really is. I firmly believe that it’s a must-have for anyone who wants to explore our solar system in a whole new way.
