Warped Passages: Unraveling the Mysteries of the Universe's Hidden Dimensions is a book by Lisa Randall, published in 2005, about particle physics in general and additional dimensions of space (cf. Kaluza--Klein theory) in particular. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060531096/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0060531096&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=e71f9e3e8282833ee21687b94cffe9c6 The book has made it to top 50 at amazon.com, making it the world's first successful book on theoretical physics by a female author. She herself characterizes the book as being about physics and the multi-dimensional universe. She comments that her motivation for writing this book was her "thinking that there were people who wanted a more complete and balanced vision of the current state of physics." She has noticed there is a large audience that thinks physics is about the bizarre or exotic. She observes that when people develop an understanding of the science of particle physics and the experiments that produce the science, people get excited. "The upcoming experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN near Geneva will test many ideas, including some of the warped extra-dimensional theories I talk about." Another motivation was that she "gambled that there are people who really want to understand the physics and how the many ideas connect." Randall is currently a professor at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. However, she stays active in the field because she continues to study both particle physics and cosmology. She stays current through her research into the nature of matter's most basic elements, and the forces that govern these most basic elements. Randall's experiences, which qualify her as an authority on the subject of the book, are her original "contributions in a wide variety of physics studies, including cosmological inflation, supersymmetry, grand unified theories, and aspects of string theory". "As of last autumn, she was the most cited theoretical physicist in the world during the previous five years." In addition her most recent work involved extra dimensions. Her background research for the book, on the theories and experiments of extra dimensions and warped geometries, was published in the peer-reviewed Science magazine in 2002. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warped_Passages Lisa Randall (born June 18, 1962) is an American theoretical physicist and a leading expert on particle physics and cosmology. She works on several of the competing models of string theory. Her best known contribution to the field is the Randall--Sundrum model, first published in 1999 with Raman Sundrum. Randall-Sundrum theory predictions are subject to ongoing tests at the LHC. However, the experimental signature that would be required to validate the Randall-Sundrum model would be the discovery of a class of particles called Kaluza-Klein particles. This would constitute a monumental discovery in physics. It would be the first physical evidence that superstring theory is on the right track. Given the magnitude of such a discovery, administration at the Large Hadron Collider would undoubtedly hold a press conference to announce such a discovery. Furthermore, the physics literature would thoroughly address this discovery. Since neither of these events has transpired, the following can be safely concluded. To date, the L.H.C has yet to produce any evidence to validate the Randall-Sundrum model at slightly over half of its energy capability. She was the first tenured woman in the Princeton University physics department and the first tenured female theoretical physicist at both MIT and Harvard University. She has also written two popular science books and the libretto of an opera. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Randall

Is time the 4th dimension and if so what is the tesseract/hypercube the 5th?

if we live on the weak brane it would explain gravitys weakness ..for instance gravity strength is just as strong as all the other forces but because we live in a system like a glass of water our universe would be filled with gravity all the time but because we are living in a glass of water (Universe filled with gravity) the gravity or in this case our universe is always filled with gravity but still it is always being poured into the universe and the run off would be what we call dark matter that we see speeding up the universe but in reality the dark energy is actually gravity at its strongest where we who live inside this glass of water or system we are always filled and so we don,t notice gravitys full strength" also i believe dark matter are different dimensions that we cannot see but we can observe its effects of the matter we do. ...i,m not good at explaining what i,m thinking but some will understand ...what i,m trying to imply is ..think about if our universe lived at the bottom of a big glass of water and instead of water it is filled with gravity and it is" but we at the bottom of the glass wouldn,t feel the strength of gravity as much as the top of the glass where gravity is actually over flowing fast and at the top this could be what we see as dark energy flowing out of the glass so to say" but its really gravity at its strongest strength seemingly expanding the universe but not really expanding but over flowing into space" it sounds messy but if i could explain myself a little better i might be able to work it out however i,ll leave that to the physicist:)

At 24:56, that guy is sound asleep.

Her cadence of speech reminds me of Jodie foster's character, Dr. Arroway in the movie Contact. Insightful presentation.

this comments section is a classic example of why Americans learn fuckall at school. cor ain't she hot etc etc etc

If String Theory ISN'T correct, how will a theorist so over-committed to it respond? How will she run tests that truly falsify? Her confidence would be great, if String Theory really did make all the difference. It probably doesn't. So it's become an enormous paradigm that will block possible solutions.

Great girl :), superb presentation. You are in an extra dimension!

4me a person that could stick 2 piece;s of bread 2getter , not that i have 2 slice;s at this moment , 2 listen 2 this woman and imagine what she is saying , with stuff i can;t c , and try 2 picture in my head not the way she c;s it , and then she can illabrate on the stuff i can c, with what that could do , i could listen all day 2 her , very smart , miss

At 37:41 the statement is about gravity leakage. I am not sure I understand that, but the closer you get to the black hole, the greater the pull is toward the black hole. We exist on the outer edges of the event horizon of the black hole. That's the way I see it.

In the more, this physic master, lady Lisa Randall, is very beautyful woman by my French touch. Now, ten years after, what happen with the CERN and Higgs particle in the earth of huge machine, thank !

- why do people make it more complicated than it really is?

why is she talking about dimensions .... when Jesus was transfigured on the mount of transfiguration.... this is old facts.... Jesus already told us and showed us about transfigured.... and it was already known that flesh and blood cannot enter the other dimension[heaven],,,, nothing new.....

Answer:
The first dimension (it's potential use and ways to get there) of a database is in the mind. A good idea. (ONE.) Then comes movement (includes thinking) of these ideas and it's creations in many levels with failures and success. (That was TWO.) Lastly, there is the matter of the database and it's info, a new thought or a way to represent or show some from there (THREE.)
So we have 1) "source being/thinker" 2) "Doing/finding use" 3) Having a result (another thought, source or thinker) or some matter.
This is repeatable CREATION. -
I first saw Lisa Randall in Particle Fever, and was immediately captivated by her beauty and her intellect. She and Monica Dunford are quite a pair in that documentary which I highly recommend.

From a pragmatic perspective, the species is probably better served by a major breakthrough in the fields of energy storage of raw energy and the space propulsion systems that do not rely on the mere limitations of chemical-to-energy conversions process and gravitational slingshot trajectory launches for inter-planetary space missions.
