For those who don't like sifting through an hour of video, I'm going to publish a few highlights from the previous Space Fan Hangouts. I'll try to do that on the off-Wednesday we don't have a hangout.

Hi , i like Astrophysics and i want to know more about it but i don't know how , I'm kind off stuck Can you Help me ?!!!!!!!

Wow much like myself. Hitting 30 in a bit, and starting working towards the astrophysics major in just a few months.

Programming cameras for astronomical research is a very specific job market. I assume that you would have to take some sort of industrial programming elective within your Computer Science course in order to have a understanding.

i am 11 and i really want to become an astronomer, i love space SO much, its my favorite thing in science, but i don't know what i want to do, be an engeneer in astronomy or be the guy that looks in telescopes, both sound cool, but i don;t want to do both, because i know i'll like one more and will hate the other and won't want to do that. so yeah i am stuck

Hi I want to have a PhD and have a career in astrophysics and a big fan of your videos, especially the IC 1101 video, and that galaxy's depth is about 45% of why i want to be an astrophysicist. Is there any good paying jobs in astrophysics, what would be required besides high-leveled math???

Thank you very much for this.

Being Neil Degrasse Tyson probably pays preety good.

At least he gives some info... you're just a critic

Any college, you would recommend ?-Astronomy program

It sounds to me like he was just trying to be helpful in a short amount of time.. It's not like we're out to dinner with him. He's just pointing those who are considering a career approach in the right direction and giving his opinions/

this guys head is bigger then his goatee... there are more then two approaches you can take to a carer in astronomy.

Make money in astronomy. I know! Raise money to save I-C 1101 from fading slowly into oblivion. You know: "Send your money- check or cash to: "Save N-C 1101 from slowly fading into oblivion. We can only save her with your help. Send today to_____ etc..."

I have worked as C++ programmer for an year. I was writing code for security cameras. I made the cameras start filming when they detect motion of large objects - humans, cars, etc. My colleagues made the camera track the moving objects in front of it and actually recognize the object it was filming. At that time I realized I'm not as good as I have to be and I quit programming.

hey just stumbled here thanks for this video.

I'm 36 and I just started on my AS with the intent to become a PhD astronomer/astrophysicist/cosmologist (what these 3 do seems to change depending on the person I talk to). I'm not really sure what I want to end up doing but it will definitely include space in some shape or form. I don't have a family (not for a lack of trying :( ) so I'm sure I can devote the time needed to it. I just hope that when I get to the end I can find a good job in whatever aspect I decide on.

I've taken Maths up through Diffy Q and physics 1 & 2, but that was about 10 years ago. I certainly don't remember it. Now that I'm back in school I've completed a pre-nursing program, and I'm second guessing myself is all.
