Cronkite is have some fun playing with the Apollo Model , just like a big kid . He wanted to be on that Spacecraft . He was as much fun to watch as the actual spacecraft itself ! Yay Walter !

Why do all of these wonderful archival "kinescopes" or recordings seem to have been taken off televisions which received horrendous reception? As a kid, we received everything via antenna...but I do not remember such drop-outs.

Had The Challenger Accident not occurred there was a good chance Walter Cronkite would have flown in space.

Those CBS NEWS SIMULATIONS during Pollo were usually if not always done live. For the moonscape, a rotating cratered-filled belt was used with a wire(s) positioning the CSM and LEM in front. The model LRV sims from Apollo 15 on showed a live model, which had to be repositioned back during a switch to another shot.

Richard Spies/Reel III did opening-title anims for CBS News Apollo 11 thru Apollo 17--I have that on solid authority from Joel Banow, the director then who hired him, plus much documentation at the Smithsonian NASM Archives from Joel Banow. Spies also did 1972 CBS News Campaign '72 convs. openers with donkeys & elephants, and later did some CBS Sports animations, thx to Bob Wussler connection. Spies is alas gone, but does anyone know how to contact his family? Banow wd like to do so, as would I.

CNSR here aired 1100-1230 EST on MONDAY 3 MARCH 1969. Harry Kramer was the announcer. Director Joel Banow and Reel III Animation/Richard Spies, under the leadership of the amazing EP Bob Wussler, created those terrific CBS NEWS SIMULATIONS seen in the prologue to the opening main title, and the scale models of the CSM and LEM/LM.

I want to thank you so much for finding and uploading these telecasts. These leave me in tears, for the memories of accomplishments past, an era which will never be again. I was always interested in the program (meaning everything NASA flew), so I suppose that it is only fitting that Neil and Buzz landed on my 12th birthday. As it turns out, my favorite coverage was from CBS; they had the best technical descriptions, and Cronkite was truly interested in the program. Thank you again.
